I remember a while ago my friend showed me his Stepmania version. His version had literally a billion songs. He even had PS 2 songs on his Stepmania. More specifically, he had DDR SuperNova, SuperNova 2, Extreme, Extreme 2, Max, and Max 2. Is this illegal by any chance? If not, does anybody know how I could also import those songs onto my Stepmania or whatever my friend used?

Look at the simfiles category at:
KONAMI -> DDR & DS -> Simfiles
it's one of the menus on top fyi

First things first, he didn't LITERALLY have exactly one billion songs. That would be silly.
Secondly, click here. It's where all of the songs we have are, and pretty much nearly every DDR version is in there.

Thank you guys for the fast reply! You guys are great!
P.S. I see the versions contain some songs, but not all of the songs? Am I missing something? And for the platform, am I suppose to use Stepmania to play these DDR or what platform am I supposed to use? Sorry for all the questions! I'm new to this!

Yeah, the official ones will pretty much work with any Stepmania version. Also, the reason that some songs don't appear on one mix is because they're put on the first mix they appeared in. So something like MAX 300 is on DDR X, but it appeared on DDRMAX first, so it's there instead.

Songs are not always where they were first released. A lot of songs from UNIVERSE 3 got moved to the X2 category, for example. If you can't find a certain song, use the search on the page Oni-91 linked to. Or just ask.
Also, a lot of older songs from DDR are still not available here. Feel free to PM me if you can't find something.

Alright, I have downloaded all the songs into Stepmania and now it works for arrow keys! Now I have 2 questions.
1) What pad do you guys recommend? In terms of most cost saving money, durability of pad, non slipping of pad, long term use, etc.
2) How do I connect the pad to play Stepmania? I'm using a laptop right now and I was wondering how a pad could connect to a laptop? If anybody else has any other better ideas to play Stepmania from a pad, please let me know as I am open to idea!

Dance pads with a USB connector are the easiest type to use with StepMania. With very few exceptions, you can plug them into your PC or Mac and they'll work with very little effort.
http://www.stepmania.com/wiki/Dance_Pads
Go to the StepMania input mapping screen
Before using a dance pad in StepMania, you must map the buttons on your dance pad to functions in StepMania.
Important: If your USB adapter requires a code for "dance pad mode" (usually hold Up+Select+Start for 3 seconds), you must re-enter this code every time you restart your computer or unplug your USB adapter. It is especially important that you enter this code before mapping buttons in StepMania.
<SmScreen argument="Docs/tutorial_menu.gif" />
Use the keyboard's arrow and Enter keys to select "Options", then choose "Config Key/Joy" option.
Using the StepMania input mapping screen
<SmScreen argument="Docs/tutorial_keys.gif"/>
This screen has a list of functions names down the middle and three columns of "slots" on either side.
The slots on the left side are for the left pad, and the ones on the right are for the right pad.
To assign a pad button to a function:
Use the arrow keys to change the current slot
Press Enter on the keyboard
Press a button on your pad
The third column of slots on each side is reserved for the default keyboard mapping. You cannot make assignments to the third column.
If you use a dance pad, you will need to assign all the buttons of your dance pad to functions in StepMania. Start at the top row and assign keys to the Left, Right, Up, Down, Back, and Start functions. If you don't plan to use pads and are satisfied with the default keyboard assignments, they you don't need to change anything on this screen.
Once all your keys are configured, press Escape to go back to the main menu.

Enjoy the best way to play the best Machine Dance game ever!!!!
Here's one that's under $15

As you get better and more addicted you'll want to buy bigger and better dance pads, but to begin with keep it cheap, you may get burned out over time, this pad should last 2-3 months with light use as you get better you'll wear the pad faster and you'll require a better pad such as a hard-foam dance pad or a metal dance pad. We can discuss further when that time comes until then I recommend just buying the cheapest pad because they (soft pads) are all nearly identical regardless of price.

Thank you for that. I'll just read off of Stepmania on how to work the pad with my laptop and what not.
As for the pads, I'm a newcomer on this forum, but I'm not new to DDR. I dislike how the light pad moves too much. Because of it, sometimes it ruins my nice streaks.
P.S. over 10 people viewing this forum. Can you guys contribute on your opinion on pads in terms of most cost saving money, durability of pad, non slipping of pad, long term use, etc?

If you don't like soft pads the other two good options are foam core pads, which are the nicest things you can buy for under $100, or a metal (hard) pad. Which you might have to save up for.
The best foam core pad I've ever seen is the Red Octane Ignition. These are no longer in production but you should be able to find them used (hopefully not too much so). If you're really lucky you'll find a game store still holding onto one new. The latest version of this pad developed was the Ignition 3. Looked like an orange and black in the groove stage. These went for about $100 new.
For hard pads there are many but only a couple that stand out in terms of quality. Cobalt Flux & BlueShark. I personally recommend Cobalt Flux. The best version of this was the original design, which you can still find on Amazon for $300. If you go to their website they're selling a new style of pad that has bumpers and handles around the edge. I cannot vouch for those.
Anyone reading this that swears by BlueShark pads wanna put their two cents in?
Those are my choices for durability and longevity. As for slipping, it really depends on what surface you put the pad down on. Cobalt Flux pads come with grip tape for the underside. They look and feel like roof shingles yet my football player-sized friend can still make the thing scoot across carpet with ease. Because non-soft pads are raised off the floor tape doesn't work well in keeping them secure. You'll have to experiment to see what works best.

Thank you for your very helpful post AeronPeryton! I'm debating on the Red Octane pad and the metal one now.
Anybody else have comments on either the Red Octane pad or the metal pad?

Any dense foam pad should be very similar to the RedOctane pads, just buy the cheapest you can find, and a used Ignition 3 is still a used pad, no matter who made it, it's a disposable pad (all soft-pads are).Anybody else have comments on either the Red Octane pad or the metal pad?
To keep your pad from slipping buy Rug Grip (I swear by it, an essential product for any slipping pad, metal, soft, dense foam).

or

Since you know how to play go with a foam pad until you can afford to purchase a permanent Cobalt Flux or similar pad.

"Oh god what I have dooooone?!" |
if you wanted to jump in full ball you could go and build a pad if you've got some tech know how.
It's easy enough, even if you don't. just ask at a hardware store when you go, or something.
Links should be in my sig.

So I recently saw this Pad directly to computer to play Stepmania: http://cgi.ebay.com/Non-Slip-Dancing-Step-Dance-Mat-Mats-Pads-PC-USB-NEW-/320511196117?pt=Video_Games_Accessories&hash=item4a9ff4bbd5
Has anyone ever used or heard of these pads before? Can anyone vouch or give information regardless positive or negative regarding these pads? Looks like a simple USB into computer and play?

Oh god no don't get those. They're not horrible, but they slip a lot if you play

I'd recommend getting a Red Octane pad and getting a PS2 --> Computer adapter.

It seems to be $80+ for that pad and all of them have been used. Any other suggestions on pads then? How about this one: http://store.mymybox.com/ddrmbsdxpc.html

I don't know, it doesn't look bad. The red octanes used to be $50, so...
But try this link:
Red Octane is the recommended pad and you should try to get one as I've heard good things about it.

Thanks for that Amazon link. I looked into it and it's from company of this site. They apparently have like quite a bit of other pads they are selling. You would recommend any of these non metal pads from this site: http://www.ddrgame.com/pcdancepad.html
