Whenever I step anywhere on the edge of the middle button, it triggers pretty much all the buttons. Help?

"Oh god what I have dooooone?!"
Perhaps a crossed, broken or exposed wire?
Have you opened up the pad and checked for anything being busted?

I've had this problem. If all else fails, just check the wires and loosen the screws a bit.

Do you mean crossed as in it's under a panel that it's not connected to?

Maybe. I mean it could be the center panel shorting everything since you can actually remove some paper or whatever under it and it'll be usable for pump.

Main idea would be to open it up and have a fiddle round with anything that looks broken or twisted.

Failing all else, perhaps your control box is fried and you need a new one?

What does that mean? Even though I don't use the middle panel, should I remove the wood thing in the center panel?

Pardon the timing, but not necessarily.

Unfortunately, you can't even get soft pads here in stores (minus the once in a blue moon oh look it's a bundle) so I haven't actually seen/played with a cobalt, so I'm not entirely sure how they're put together.

However, their construction can only be so complex.

You step on a panel, it makes a connection between two bits of metal or whatever.
The signal goes down the wires, blah blah, the wires come out of the pad all at one point.

If they have become damaged somewhere, it's possible that one of the panels is bridging all of the connections at once, causing all the arrows to trigger.
If the middle panel is the problem, and they just happen to be grouped in or around the middle panel, then pop it off and see if there's anything going on under it.

Or failing that broken control box.

Oh or it might be a grounding issue, so it short circuits or just doesn't play right.
Especially if there's a common ground or something.
