I looked through a few pages and to my surprise no one asked this question. So as the thread asks, what got you into DDR and why are you still into it today? I'll start since I'm the one who is asking.
I was around 6 or 8 when I found out about DDR, my first game being DDR Konamix for the PS1, I remember my first song on that game was After The Game, man when I was young I though that on
was hard. Anyways, a few years later, around 2003, I went over a friends house and he showed me the new games, and the secondI saw them, I loved them, I remember it took me a year to figure out what was up with the extra foot rating when none of the songs were using it, that was until I decided finally to use the roulette option in DDR MAX, and the second I saw MAX 300, and landed on it, since I had it on
at the time, I immediately saw what it was for, and as being my curious self, checked it out. I remember, I was freaking out, yelling "What do I do, what do I do!", because I didn't expect the arrows to come that fast. Tried MAXX UNLIMITED in MAX 2, and the same ordeal, just because they increased the speed by just 20 BPM. Then a few years after that, probably 2006, I got DDR Extreme, and it took me 2 years to unlock all the songs, as I keep fluctuating between wanting to play it and getting bored of it. Then a year later, I found out about Stepmania, lost interest in it for a few years and now I'm playing it again. Then come in DDR SuperNOVA 2, and have not completed it as the tedious mission mode and having to buy all my songs with dance points really ruined the experience for me, but I'm still trying, just with a controller because as times changed, space isn't easily accessible now as it was before. In total, my collection of DDR games consist of DDR Konamix, DDR MAX 1&2, Extreme 1&2, and Super NOVA 1&2. Plan on getting X 1&2, not really gonna get DDR PS3 as the song list seems lacking to me. I still like this game because I wasn't like the other guys in school, sports weren't my thing, and I only had a few good friends. Also I think Facebook is a waste of time. I think going out and socializing with friends in-person is, and what other way than DDR? Easy to pick up and play for the beginners, while challenging to the pros. To save you the sake of reading another paragraph of rambling, I'll stop here.
So, what's your story?

I believe this has been done, but it is ok to keep things fresh.
What got me into ddr was this sale (I'm a bargain hunter) and saw DDR Max and 2 pads for 30 dollars.
Spotting a deal, I bought the game.
At first, I was disappointed with the songlist, but I grew to love it as well as the game.

My sister got DDR Extreme for Christmas 2004, and I used to think that it was a really stupid game at first. Then I actually played it and grew attached to it.

It was a Christmas gift from my brother since I was obese at that time. He bought me DDR 1st and 2nd mix. I was around 10 years old back then.
In two years time, I learned to beat songs in Expert difficulty. Or as the old school goes, Maniac difficulty.

I was 8 or 9 coming out of a movie at the cinemas and saw some guy playing doubles on heavy (EXTREME), although to me it just looked like flailing around, but he was hitting everything. I decided to give it a try. I liked it but only played occasionally for the next year or so. I then began going to the arcade every weekend after about a year and a half after that one occation, playing only 3 or 4 times in between. Since then I have become the best DDR player I know, all of 8 years later!

My friend showed me his bootleg PS1 copy of 5thMIX and the Dancemania songs drew me to it. Test My Best holds a special place in my heart haha.

People have been complaining about the quality of the DDRPS3, so I'm rather glad that I started off with DDRPS3. It can only get better from here. For me anyway.

I picked up DDR because of the variety of songs and the workout bonus.

When did you start playing DDR?
Sometime during Fall 2000.
Where?
At Grand Prix in Tampa Bay, they had a DDR USA machine and i just got on and played and next thing i know i fell in love with the game.
Why do you like DDR so much?
When i first saw it, it was something COMPLETELY different than most arcades i have ever seen, plus after i got my first copy, i started realizing it can help you lose weight.
Yyyyyyup.

Thought I should try to get in shape, so I bought it. Surprisingly enough, I got way more into the game/score aspect than the exercise one.
I remember when I used to think CSFIL (Speed Mix)
was the hardest chart in the world, and thought I would never be able to do it in a million years

The first time I walked into my college's game room, I saw an unusual arcade machine. It had no guns to shoot or large buttons begging to be pressed, just a strange metal pad with eight arrows on it and a screen with flashing lights.
...hrm? A game controlled with one's feet? Surely this was a wondrous device. I put in some tokens and navigated my way to a song list full of strange music that I had never heard before. I chose a song called "Why not", because it was in English, and bemusedly failed to match the movements of my feet on the arrows to the screen and flashing lights. Whatever. I left and went to find some dining facilities.
I couldn't let it rest, though. I could play Rock Band pretty well, and this seemed to be no different - just foot-controlled. And I did like Rock Band a lot. A couple days later, I decided to give this "DanceDanceRevolution SuperNOVA 2" thing another go, and four rounds later, I passed my first song...
[2.3 years elapse]
I've gotta say the main reason I stuck with DDR and dance games is the fact that no other video game is so physically fun. I like the challenge of eye-foot coordination, and I learned how to play doubles so I'd have more options. I also just love music and, by extension, games that are music-based.

It seems I'm the only one here with a wall of text. I actually have a goal I want to do in DDR, I did look around on youtube to see if anyone has been able to do a perfect AAA AKA get a full 1,000,000 points on Pluto Relinquish, and it seems no one has posted themselves accomplishing it so that's my goal as of currently. School kinda detracts from me trying to reach that goal so definitely during the summer I'm go full out on it. If anyone has video proof of them doing the full song and getting the 1,000,000 AAA, please show me, so I skip Pluto Relinquish and go straight to Valkyrie dimension.

A Marvelous Full Combo ? Because 1.000.000 score means this...No nobody did this already and it will not happend i guess. Only a few players can PFC this song...
(i'll maybe explain an other day why i'm playing ddr)

I find it funny that I got into the series. Back when I was about 8 or so, my friends were playing and asked if I wanted to try. My reply to that was "I don't dance. That's that". How funny I find this
So yeah, my interest started back in 2007 when my friend came back from Ohio with a copy of DDR Ultramix 4 and a foam pad. My first song I ever played on it was Waka Laka on
I believe. I remember I always spammed Senses on
because that was the one I didn't horribly fail on.
It wasn't too long after that until I discovered Stepmania (and later ZIv). I eventually bought my own copy of DDR, Hottest Party 1 a few months after I first played. I got Extreme 2 and SuperNOVA 2 around the same time for Christmas of that year because Hottest Party's songlist was becoming bleh and those games had better songs and difficulty ranges. I just went through this whole craze for about a year. It later died shortly after DDR X and started back up with the release of X2 AC.
This whole DDR craze I got into really opened me to other things. I would somewhat say this was a factor in me gaining interest in anime. It also kind of broadened my taste in music and got me interested in IIDX and a bit of Pop'n too.
I really don't know what got me hooked into playing DDR. It seems I just started playing and I really just took a liking to the series despite being very horrible at first.

My mom first got DDR Konamix as a thing to do as a workout when I was about 8 years old, she couldn't figure it out so it became useless to her. So I took it over & was instantly addicted to it, years alter I found out about DDRMAX2 & DDR EXTREME being at a local arcade near me. I think the one song that I always kept on playing was ever snow by Yoma Komatsu on MAX2 well 10 years later, here I am as 18 years old & still playing DDR

It was about 3-4 yrs ago there was a local video game shop called G3 (Games 3), it was a regular gaming store with LAN set ups and what not. Any who on one of the computers that was hooked up to a big screen TV was running SM 3.9 with Techno Fiend 3.1 theme, i believe, and it had a lot of songs some were DDR and the others were user created sims. So it was that which got me hooked onto DDR, granted i wasn't very good at using the pad at that time, and started to buy the PS2 titles and as they say "the rest was history".
