Simple.
Some arcades allow players to record to DVD-R in Japan.

Is everyone just forgetting that he has the difficult doubles chart memorized...? Although I wonder if the place I'm going to next month will let me record stuff. I have a small DVD recorder and I don't want to set up a camera and tripod for DDR and IIDX (and Jubeat). Although Jubeat wouldn't exactly be all that logical I suppose.

That's the only explanation I can fathom as to how IIDX players manage to direct-line record She is My Wife when the home version wasn't out back then (or still isn't released right now).
One thing that bugs me though, in one video description (a direct line IIDX video), I recall stumbling upon the the word "FRAPS."

You do realise IIDX releases tend to get hacked? DDR just doesn't.

Why won't this ever happen on DDR? Seeing direct line videos of most bemani games and not DDR makes me feel that it isn't given
that much attention.
al2k4: Hacked? The only idea I've got is extracting the bg videos from it. What other things that people do with the data?
It could be informational. I learned how Saber Wing Remix
should be played by watching someone dance to it.
that much attention.

The creation of BMS files, the creation of themes for emulators using official graphics and animations, locating hidden songs...

IIDX / Pop'n / DDR / PIU can all run on Windows, and within days of each new game coming out, the hardcore Japanese fans get ahold of the hard drive and rip out pieces of data and combine them with old .exe files to get the songs running and make line-outs and videos.
Eventually, the hard drives all find their way into the hands of a certain western player, who cracks the security protection, and gets the games running on Windows. In order to stop people just taking the cracked game and putting it into a legit cabinet, he usually adds restrictions to the games, like the game being forced onto freeplay, and disabling all the code related to coin input.
This guy received DDRX and Pump It Up NXA sometime early last year, cracked them, and then decided to never release the crack, because of the damage it would do to the DDR scene. I think they released the hard drive images for both games, but without any means to play them.
So basicaly, DDR is just a different beast, with a different community of players trying to rip it apart, to get at the juicy bits. Everyone seems to be happy with graphic and sound data getting ripped for Stepmania simfiles, and nobody demands perfect-quality line-outs, or PC executables?

Just curious, what is the third icon at the beginning means? The first one is e-amuse, second is edit data. No idea about the third...

But anyway, I hope we see more of this as I find it fascinating to see gameplay on how an e-amuse enabled machine flows. I guess the main reason people don't use this is because they want visual confirmation of the person playing. That and I assume the file resulting from a direct recording is enormous.
