Do you guys mind if I share this experience with you guys here? I figured it would be more than appropriate since Wonder Girls at one time were BEMANI adjacent (Tell Me was in the Pump it Up series) licensed artists.
I just had the most amazing couple of Asian idol related days. First, on Thursday I was up in Los Angeles at the Erina Mano events. (http://club2themax.com/ShinMimiMoviePR201005.php) It was what I would call a perfect day and I never thought that my experience at the Wonder Girls concert on the very next day down in San Diego could come anywhere close to it.
Why do I say that? A number of reasons. I was concerned about it being a standing room only venue. Leading to personal space and security issues. I thought perhaps a bad position on the floor would detract from my enjoyment. I was also very apprehensive about being in a place where I might hear some of my fellow fans say cruel and malicious things about any of the members up on stage.
Luckily, none of these things happened. Fate had smiled upon me once again and granted me another perfect Asian idol day. I got an amazing position on the floor, on the left side of the stage, behind two petite women with a very clear view of the entire stage, six to eight feet away from the stage. Things never got too uncomfortable or cramped. Sometimes people got excited and pushed up toward the stage, but there was never any feeling of personal endangerment or anything of the sort. I was surrounded by some really friendly people, especially a really nice teenage girl who was there for the 2AM (opening act), but she was respectful of Wonder Girls and we made a pact to cheer both groups on equally. There was no sign of "You're nothing!" or any other rude remarks that have been reported from other venues. I thought the crowd was amazing. I was even told by someone who had attended many of Wonder Girls' Live US shows that it definitely was the best crowd so far. It really made me proud to be a San Diegan. (We don't play! lol) The girls seemed to have really fed off the positive energy and it really showed in their performance, reactions and smiles. There were a lot of off script moments generated from all of the positivity in the air.
I had a mission going into the concert. I wanted Lim (newest member replacing an old one and subjected to a lot of usually harsh criticism by the "fans" on the internet and sometimes right to her face) to know that I support her. Real fans support her. That we love her... and quite frankly, f*ck the haters. lol Anyway!! What happened? I showed Lim my support in the best way that I could and she knew it. She rewarded me in the only way she could on that stage. Whenever she would come to the left side of the stage and able to break the choreography, she looked me right in the eye, smiled and waved at me. This only happened twice. She never waved at anyone else from the left side of the stage. My screaming and carrying on over Lim probably got a little on the obnoxious side! lol I even thought I was annoying her. I caught her attention at least twice in the MC segments. Once shouting a message of support to her over one of the other girls (Please forgive me!!) and the other time distracting her from her pre-Lip Gloss MC briefly before she performed that song. That time, I shouted "SAN DIEGO LOVES YOU LIM!!!!!" she paused for a moment, looked right at me with a blank expression, and walked a few steps toward me before going back into the MC. lol I was certain she was really over me! lol But my fears were put to rest when in the later portion of the concert, she came back to the left side of the stage, looked me right in the eye again, smiled and waved at me the second time. (Oh, and don't think I didn't give any of the other girls a lot of love and positive energy, I just really focused on Lim!)
Oh! I touched both Yenny and Yubin! lol Yenny gave my fingers a brief squeeze and Yubin couldn't reach but made sure to tap my fingers. lol There is evidence of this on YouTube if you can believe it! Here are some screencaps!! Caps courtesy from the video taken by the guy who told me that the San Diego crowd was the best one of the whole tour up to that point. I was standing at his seven o'clock and he was at my 1 o'clock.
While we're at it, here is the only evidence of Lim waving at me that I can find so far.
The concert eventually came to an end and we had to get out of there. My vacation budget was depleted to less than 20 dollars. I entertained the idea of just leaving with nothing, but something at the merch booth did catch my eye. A Wonder Girls keychain with their photo on it for 5 dollars... perfect! You see, at the Erina Mano event, the staff gave away free Kai-Ki keychains with Erina's photo on it. I though to myself what a perfect pair of keepsakes that I can always carry with me to remember these past couple of days?
Anyway, that's that! Thanks to Wonder Girls, JYP, House of Blues... AND OH MY GOD, I DIDN'T MENTION 2AM MUCH, DID I!?!? LOL You know what? They were cool! lol Also, big thanks to all of the cool and friendly fans who were there at the concert around me. I didn't get a lot of people's names, but if somehow you recognize anything I'm talking about, then that's you! You rule!

Actually, I need to update that memory. I just saw a fan-cam video from a girl who was standing at my 5 o'clock who captured me shouting "SAN DIEGO LOVES YOU LIM!!!" and her reaction was far from a blank expression. She smiled at me!! I'm just going to chalk this up to her being closer to the other side of the stage and I couldn't see her face very well when it happened. I'm really glad that things actually turned out this way much more!!
