"Let's Do the Rain Dance" |
Should their songs be considered licensed tunes or Konami Originals? Weren't they part of the record label "A Different Drum"? If so, just how did they get their songs in every arcade mix since DDR Supernova? I'm sorry if this has already been asked. It's just that your Game Database is confusing on the answer to the original question...

They are license artists who were also commissioned to make Konami originals. The songs they made FOR DDR=KOs, songs that were licenses=licenses.

I think I get it, but the Game Database still lists the songs you said were made for DDR (At the very least "Baile Le Samba", "MAX 300 (Super-Max-Me Mix)", "Midnight Special", and "Monkey Punk") are listed as licenses. Shouldn't these be corrected?

Love machineguns is Toshio Sakurai + Yuei Uematsu + Hideyuki Ono + Thomas Howard, all of them BEMANI artists.
It was considered a Konami original back on GF3/dm2, I don't see why it shouldn't be now.

Baile Le Samba and Monkey Punk, IIRC = Big Idea.
Unless "Big Idea" IS Jondi & Spesh, I mean. ^.^ MAX 300 (SMMM) is the only J&S song on arcades that I know of, and that's probably part of the terms of being a MAX 300 remix, somewhere (or Konami Japan just decided they liked it when porting UM2's tracks to STR!KE).
If anything, I'd list them among Commissioned Artists; not unlike Sota Fujimori's or BeForU's tracks. They did produce a tremendous chunk of Ultramix 4 and Universe songs, after all; and I'd LOVE to see 250bpm's remix in arcades (And Insaner's too, for that matter).

It's the same deal as Bill Hamel. They licensed Ghetto Blasta Deluxe, but commissioned him to make Dance Celebration and some other songs. KONAMI owns the commissions, but not the license.
Big Idea is a group based in the US, I believe. KDEA/KCEH commissioned a ton of stuff from them, only a fraction of which ever got included in any DDR games.

"^ featured on Law & Order" |
Just to refresh everyone's memory, the following are all of Jondi & Spesh's works that have appeared in DDR:
250bpm (Jondi&Spesh mix)
Balalaika, Carried With the Wind (Jondi&Spesh mix)
Cosmic Hammer
Edge Of Control
Insaner
Insaner (L.E.D.'s Punishment Mix)
Loops
MAX 300 (Super-Max-Me Mix)
Power 5 (Shift-Mega Mix)
We Are Connected (Overdrive Mix)
MAX 300 (SMMM), 250bpm, and Balalaika are obviously KO remixes. I'm also gonna safely guess that Power 5 (and maybe Cosmic Hammer) is commissioned. Judging by their discography on their site, I'll take a guess and say that Edge of Control and We Are Connected (Overdrive Mix) are the licenses, while the rest are the commissions. However, the site has no mention of DDR Ultramix 4, where Edge of Control and Cosmic Hammer made their debut.
EDIT: We Are Connected (Overdrive Mix) is a license.
