They shouldn't have let such a amateur bug exist in the first place, this is a first year student mistake. If they aren't checking the length of strings (in the days of olde this would have been asking for a buffer overrun exploit), then what other client-side data problems are hidden elsewhere?

I'm surprised the status text fields in their database allows such long statuses in the first place. A default MySQL VARCHAR(255) setting would've been good enough to limit it to under 256 characters.

Every time I see someone join these dumb groups, I seriously consider castrating them.
