Console Crossover Challenge #3 (04/02/2010)

Post a picture or video of the challenge songs featured this week.

Rules:

1. Any difficulty or mode is fair game. Only DDR products (PS, PS2, X-Box, X-Box 360, DDR S/S+, or Arcade versions) are eligible, no StepMania scores are allowed. You can play the songs involved on any version of the game.

2. Marvelous and OKs are also considered "Perfects," songs are judged by Perfects/Greats. Ties are broken with the totals of all songs played for each challenge, so post those, too. (Global total, America total, Japan total, Europe total.)

3. Official charts that are not featured on a version can be played as well (like charts for songs that have them later), provided a video playthrough of the correct chart is posted.

4. Official challenge is valid through the first post of the following Tuesday. You can always play and post for fun after that, though.

Whoever wins the most songs of a challenge wins the set. Winner of the offical Global challenge will be allowed to select any version of the game to be featured the next week. Rock on!

Could we extend this challenge longer than the upcoming Tuesday? I'm going to be out of range of any DDR equipment until at least Thursday and I really want to participate

I could start making this semi-weekly, I suppose. Gives you all until a week from Tuesday instead... and this way it still gives time to submit the winner's request and set up the next one.

I also MIGHT need to find a way to get more X-Box related titles in on the action, too. Perhaps systems instead of regions? o.O I'd like to keep this relatively uncomplicated, still; and though the Ultramix/Universe/Unleashed titles *are* in the randomization pool... but they also coincide with the USA-Region and Euro-Region games. I suppose I could have them act as a seperate challenge set perhaps, or a "fourth and fifth region" selection, maybe (seeing as there's almost no Japan-region Ultra/Uni titles). That may also prove to be kind of limiting, however. (And Europe not having Unleashed 4 or Universe 3 doesn't help that any.)


Eventually, I'd like to bridge this into being more YouTube-based. At least a song or two per player, just for kicks. But for now, I understand... not everybody has the hardware or bandwidth capacity of doing so. And I'm not entirely certain how long I would, either. I may make challenge #50 totally video-based, however; we'll see what happens between now and a year (or two?) from here.

BRILLIANT 2U/DYNAMITE RAVE: Not necessarily. I'll even accept the -Specials (AIR and STREAM Special) from SuperNOVA 2/X2 (USA), but I don't see what advantage you'd get from that. If you like the remake(s) better, go for it!

...and there you have it. Honestly, EXTREME 2 is an uber-breeze for me... one thing that contributes to my scores is +1 timing. Makes it almost practically impossible to miss ANYTHING. I think EXTREME (JP) is the only mix I have more AAA's on - doing that even let me AAA the BOOM BOOM DOLLAR (K.O.G.G3 MIX) [Mission X-35]. You know... the "brake" one?

Anyhow, hope your PS1s and bootdiscs are available, as I'm electing:

DDR EXTRA MIX! (Japan PS1)

(Okay, it'll coincide with other regional mixes still, so you don't need to worry so much.)


PS: If you want a challenge with boss songs in it, you'd have the best luck going with EXTREME (Japan PS2), DDR X (Japan PS2), or DDR/DS SuperNOVA 2 (USA/Euro PS2); as they have not only the greatest number of them, but also ones that coincide with other versions more. EXTREME has 8 10-footers (7 coinciding; and one currently exclusive for JAPAN Challenge) along with all PARANOiA/TRIP MACHINE/2MB songs, DDR X also has just about every PARANOiA/TRIP MACHINE/2MB song ever, too (and the exclusive SMM-Specials), and SN2 USA/Euro has 8 10-footer songs, which include an EXTREME one, an ULTRAMIX one, two SN (JP) ones, -and- the first 4 from JP SN2.

They get posted on Friday. I'll have to roll some bones, to determine the other (US/Euro) mixes. After that, I check to see what all songs coincide between them, and what are exclusive to each of them - and that determines what the challenges are. (Sometimes Global challenges use only two of the mixes, if no or too few songs coincide.)

Therefore, it'll be: [DDR EXTRA MIX (JP)] xx [DDR ??? (US)] xx [DS ??? (usually Euro, but DDR Party Collection JP is in that bunch somewhere, too)]

If you're so eager, play challenges #1-3, and place yourself within the rankings. No reason you can't play them for fun, and it'll give you an idea where we all stand.
