"ARR JOO LEADY??" |
This idea came to me a little bit ago, again inspired from revisiting older console mixes and seeing just how many of the songs coincide within one-another. Simply put, here's what goes down:
1. Once a week, 3 mixes are randomly selected, one from each region. I'm using dice personally, but whatever fits your fancy will work just as well. The first two are a Japanese and a North American title to begin with (PS/X-Box worlds... HP games should probably be their own world for a little longer, at least until more songs coincide there that just some US/X2 crossovers). From that, a mutual tracklist is generated for the "world challenge," and anything title-exclusive to each is listed as a "regional challenge." In case of excessive track population (more than 10 tracks), the third Euro title acts as an additional filter, provided it doesn't eliminate all of the tracks.
I'm also considering allowing "any two mixes" to be the filter, as well. And though it may seem a little lopsided, I'm deciding to include DDR/DS Universe DLC (as it increases the crossover tunes involved), but not Ultramix/Unleashed DLC (which is a considerably larger portion of songs that may-or-may-not. Logic: Default Ultramix titles cross over a lot more songs than Universe ones do.)
2. For a yet-to-be-determined amount of time (I'm thinking 2-3 days or so), any participants can submit a screencapped score and/or video for each song, and can replace one score with an improved score, but only one score per song is allowed. The scoring is Perfect/Greats, and for sake of simplicity/compatibility, Marvs and OKs = Perfects. Most modifiers are allowed, we'll iron out that later if need be (half-jumps is the only one that really concerns me, to be honest - jumps on or off, I'd consider fair). Even selecting different modes (Single/Double/Hands/Quad/whatever) or difficulties is fair game.
SONGS CAN BE PLAYED ON ANY GAME/CONSOLE, OR ARCADE VERSIONS. However, having the corresponding mix available will allow you the added convenience of playing the entire set without disc-swapping. And given a few inconsistencies (CUTIE CHASER (MORNING MIX) and Love At First Sight come to mind) or missing charts, you can reproduce an appropriate chart in Edit Mode, provided you use a video of the stepchart as score evidence. (If you want to show off as well, I suggest plugging in an EyeToy or something of the like.)
3. At the conclusion, each player will be ranked by the combined Perfects (and then Greats) for all the songs played in each challenge (one score for World, one score for Region), and then ranked appropriately. As a prize (as well as ego boost), they will be allowed to SELECT one title of the next week's challenge, regardless of it's region.

I think that this is going to be fun, I have a few quick questions...
1) Does it have to be the

2) Do I have to chose only one challenge?

1. It has to be the heavy chart, considering that the scores are proportional to the amount of steps in MAX and MAX2.
2. I have no idea as I'm not even clear on the rules for this game.
3. No

The hardest song in the Global Challenge is era (nost.)
Other than that, there should be no trouble.
It is not like they include Paranoia Survivor Max Oni and Faxx on the same page.
That would be asking for too much.

1.Any official chart. Single, Double, heck you can even play 6-Panel, Quad, or Hands and Feet if you'd like. But if you play an edit, it must correspond to an official chart from another game (like AM-3P

2. Assuming you have the titles involved, you can take on every region if you'd like. But consider that each is scored seperately still, so you can't just play the entire bunch of challenges, and add them all together.
3. I'm going with "no" on this one, real DDR/DS titles only. They can be console or arcade versions (or even the elusive PC one), but they must be official DDR products. People can edit timing windows for SM. ;)
Aegis above has the right idea, here. And *lol* @ MAKE IT BETTER/Don't Stop! being made entirely of 0s, 1s, and 2s. Is it just me, or does that kind of thing happen quite a bit? NOTE: DIVE is original, not deeper style. And MAKE IT BETTER is supposed to be (SO-REAL Mix). But not bad so far! That's gonna be a toughie.

As long as you can play the Global Challenge songs, it doesn't matter what game you use to do so. You don't have to play them all either, but it may be harder to win if you don't! For instance, you can use DDRMAX, MAX2, EXTREME, and EXTREME 2 to play everything but MIB (So-REAL Mix). And that you could play on 3rd Mix. You could use 3rd/4th/5th/EXTRA Mixes too, even.
Alternatively, all of the Global Challenge songs also appear on DDR FESTIVAL together, and all but MIB (SRM) can be played on an arcade EXTREME or 5th Mix cabinet as well. It's only the regional challenges that require the specific title, being usually made entirely of disc-exclusive content. And this being KONAMIX, apart from AFTER THE GAME, you could actually play these on the Club Mix disc for Dreamcast, too. But again, that's mostly improv, seeing as ATG is the only truly exclusive track on the mix, and that wouldn't make for very much of a challenge...
Considering a slight revision of rules, setting a top score per song, and a top total score; then whoever has the most songs (or then, the difference in totals to break ties) would win the challenge. This way, people can play the songs they want, skip the songs they don't want to (or can't) play, and still participate fairly.

Okay I can do Light charts and more than one challenge, but nuts to no SM, cause i was really hoping since it would be easier for me to take a snapshot of the results screen and not worry about swapping discs. I would never adjust the timing window. well if I do this I would have to use my webcam to capture the results screen.

That's what I used to get mine.
A digicam upload or some cellphones will work for that, too. As far as disc-swapping goes, that'll only be a concern with Global Ranking, and you have a few days to complete the setlists. You don't have to do them all at once, you know. Just the results post. And honestly, it's more about enjoying random spurts of older mixes than actual competition anyways. Don't forget, arcade versions still count, too!
And given how the Version xx Version system works, that means there will always be *at least* two games you can pop in, and play the entire set with. I'm sure future ones will be more version-friendly, especially when winning the Global allows a user to select a particular version to begin with. It just so happens that this week's involves a PS1 USA title, and a PS2 Japanese one, both picked at total random. Half-randoms will result in more favorable setlist outcomes, for certain.

This looks really fun...but not having Konamix really hurts right now
I'll see what I can do with the songs I can get.
As soon as we get a PS2 mix-based challenge, I'll try and join in for reals.

What he said basically, although some of the Global and N.A. challenges are feasible with SOME of the PS2 mixes, but not ALL of them are in any of the US PS2 mixes

Thanks Aegis that reminds me. Will Disney Channel Edition and Mario Mix be thrown into the mixed pot?
....i don't want to say "NOOOOOO", but this IS a DDR challenge, so i would presume almost ANY DDR game would be used for this challenge? Or only the "true" DDR mixes?Post #19 · Posted at 2010-03-21 08:42:11am 15.3 years ago

If you want to be that literal about it, then none of the NA games would count as they just borrow the names and have songlists different from the games whose name they are borrowing it from.

Playing the World Challenge is quite challenging.
Can I join too?
But I don't have any console.
Maybe I play the WORLD CHALLENGE at the DDR SOLO.
