"BACK IT UP BACK IT UP" |
Seriously, I'm getting really pissed with all the songs that are topping the charts now-a-days. I mean seriously, what the f**k is "Boom Boom Pow" doing on top of the current iTunes singles chart. Black Eyed Peas has made waaaaaaay better songs before, and now people are praising them for putting out this piece of auto-tune garbage. What happened to good music? I mean I know it's all opinion, but there's got to be a limit.
So anyway, what do you folks think about the hits being churned out these days?

I get really frustrated when it comes the songs being hits these days, they're all pop/r&b/hiphop songs and that kind of crap. Seriously, what's wrong with Hard Rock and Metal??

Seriously, it'll be glorious when the next generation of music kicks in with Innerpartysystem and 3OH!3 leading the way, or at least I hope so.

I'll agree with you that there are some really stupid songs out there right now...but I think people have reached a point where they don't really care THAT much about what the music is, as long as it's upbeat and happy they'll like it because it kind of gives them an escape from all the crap that's going on in the world...you see the same thing happening in movies with low-budget comedies making millions of dollars.
at least, that's what I think
at least, that's what I think

Music nowadays is nothing but making simple catchy tunes that people will buy into. And let's not forget the appearing trend of remixing/interpreting old songs from way back when though this can be debatable.
I know that in mainstream rock, it's all sounding the same with the same kind of voice and all that garbage which is why I stopped listening to the radio. Another thing that irks me is that the lyrics are too bland. I just heard some song on the radio and he said the word "lying" over 16 times in under a minute. It's some song from Staind I believe.

I totally agree. Today's MAINSTREAM (MTV SUPPORTED) music is really weird. I personally hate rap/hip-hop and some country(even though I live in Texas). I like GOOD rock, techno, and orchestral music (cause I play the cello. )The way we move - that is a great song. My friend told me about them and sound really cool.
But, WTF is this? I mean really? WTF!

Mainstream music declined when urban became the in thing. I broke away entirely from the mainstream scene, but after a while, it doesn't seem too bad. I remember , though, several years ago when I would listen to the radio for up to an hour and I never felt like switching the station. Now, I have to put up with a lot more crappy music.

"Popular bisexual disaster" |
Musical taste died in 2002.
Anyway, on Top Gear, Tim Rice was on a couple of years ago (ridiculously huge music buff), and said that the main problem about the music industry was the ease to get involved in it. In the 70s/80s, before a song was even heard on the radio, it had to pass through many, many of the higher-ups in music labels before it was considered to be liked. So back then, if a song's famous, it was liked by many, many people, who allowed it on their label because it'd be liked. Nowadays, if a song's famous, it's just liked by the guy who made it.
That's why I've disliked the charts ever since the turn of the century. Back in 1999, in the Top 40, there was probably about 15-20 tracks I actually liked in many genres. Now? Probably one. If you're lucky.

IMHO, most music released since about 2003 sucked major ass. That song that sampled Dead or Alive's "You spin me 'right round" is lame. It's all about lack of originality. Hell, some of the "artists" and bands that debuted in the past 5 years suck. My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, Coheed & Cambria, T-Pain, Lil' Wayne (despite being around longer), they all suck. I haven't heard a great album (as a whole) since Rage Against the Machine's "The Battle of Los Angeles"...which came out in 1999!So anyway, what do you folks think about the hits being churned out these days?
Sorry, I needed to vent...

Exor said it all. Listen to the music you want to listen to, not the music you are "exposed" to listen to. Be yourself.

Just for the record, not all Mtv is bad. About a year ago, I got hooked on a sub-channel known as MtvU. They talk about a lot of going-on's in media, and they actually play music videos nearly all day. A show they do called "The Freshman 5" picks out 5 brand new music videos for viewers to vote into the daily playlist of music videos, and some pretty cool stuff can come out of there! And what's really cool, is that the main folks that run this channel hate this reality tv/hip-hop stuff like we do!!

I can listen to virtually anything, but when you hear it on a regular basis (especially here in NYC), it makes you want to knock out a few speakers or car stereos. You should see my "temporary" iPod. Nothing but my DDR music and my anime-related stuff (575 songs). That's all I can cram because my 30GB iPod was stolen in December

This sort of reminds me of some channel we had. MTV Flux was a channel that based on user interactivity, with videos being uploaded by the community about...well...anything. But this was only about 10% of the channel, conpared to 90% music videos by Radiohead, Muse, Ash, and all those bands I like. And it worked, for about a year. Then it turned into MTV R, which was pretty much 10am-6pm MTV1 expanded 24 hours a day. Oh well. At least they haven't touched MTV 2.ポスト #18 · 2009-04-01 04:56:32amにポスト 16.5年前
