Which DDR PS2 game (US) has the best stepcharts all around? Not just 9 footers, but also 7 footers and such?

Extreme2 or SuperNova in my opinion. They're both rather annoying to unlock everything though, but the former is much worse than the latter.

Max- Had some good charts, not the best though.
Max 2- better than Max I'd guess, except there is always D2R...
Extreme- Had good charts, but most people hate the songs.
Extreme 2- Had great charts.
SN- Good charts, but went quality went down from EX2
SN2- Quality went up from SN
X- Probably the best charts yet.

I've played all of them, and EX2 wins hands down.
Also, for the 360, UNI3 wins hands down. My favorite chart from UNI3 (that's a REAL chart and not some random crap. >_>(To me anyways)), is Feel The Beat
by Master Source. Also, from UNI2, Is It Any Wonder is an amazing chart.

Depends on what you mean by "Best Stepcharts"
If you mean hard, go with MAX or SuperNova
If you mean fun, go with X
My opinion though would be the one that has the least of my edits, which would be Extreme2 and X.

Extreme 2 probably has the funnest stepcharts IMO.
I also like SN2 JP (which a lot of it I guess counts towards X in the US).

EX2, SN2, and X have their share of fun charts. On the 360 front, 777
(UNI 3)is surprisingly fun, if a bit hard, IMHO.

EXTREME2, X.
I put X slightly above EXTREME2 in terms of overall quality, but they're both a high point in step charts.

I Probably disagree with most people who say X has the best charts because most of them seem to just be heavily abusing turns at lower levels, although i will concede the licenses on the US PS2 mix had some good charts that i found fun and im dissapointed that certain ones (Wine red) arent on AC yet.
Personally i think euromix 2 had its best mix of balanced charts old and new, all the licenses were brilliant and fun and well thought out (even dont try to stop it which just suffered from bad syncing sadly >_<). Also despite popular opinion, Fusions charts were absolutely amazing! The only reason nobody played it was because it was badly synced and the pads didnt work and it had a smaller list and a higher price tag than em2. But Good Luck , Familiar feeling and Heaven and earth were all amazing and ill defend that forever
in the main jp series they all had good things and bad things but i think the most well balanced would have been max, 5th was good but 16ths were overused in places they werent needed max 2 was also fairly well balanced but certain songs just ruin that for me. There probably isnt a single chart on DDRMax i would re-step really except for follow me which doesnt make much sense at all.

Not that it matters; stepcharts of all levels were really good on UNI3, as opposed some PS2 mixes, where they tend to skimp on 6-foot charts. Sometimes, it's really, really obvious, but not as bad as 1st Mix.

To me, step quality reached its peak in the 4th Plus - MAX era, and then it floated back down to...well, SN2.

As for home versions:
UNI3 > UM2 > EX2 > X > UNI > UM4 > UM3 > MAX 2 > UNI 2 > HP > EX > MAX > SN > SN2 > HP2 > UM

What do you consider random crap?

Random crap (to me) = anything similar to most of the HARD/EXPERT charts in ITG 1 & 2. I do agree that they tend to skimp on 6-footers, but they also tend to overdo it as well (Hi Under the Sky and My Only Shining Star). Not that it matters; stepcharts of all levels were really good on UNI3, as opposed some PS2 mixes, where they tend to skimp on 6-foot charts. EX2. For 360, Uni3. For UK AC, Fusion (despite it technically being a worse mix than EM2.)
