"MAGGLE" |
My first thread (gasp!!!).
Inspired by a top ten list compiled by IGN, I figured I'd do a list of games I've played, and to know what hard games other people have played and were thoroughly challenged.
Rules:
1. No games that require physical movements, like DDR. For rhythm games, state the game, and the song and the difficulty (no stepmania pls). If you simply must, you can, but leave them a last resort.
2. You may submit another list as a top 5.
3. Emulators are allowed.
That's all I can think of to make this fair.
Here's mine:
5. Alundra (PSX)
It's all good and quite easy to follow, except that the language is like in Old English, which may sometimes prove difficult to follow. And the puzzles can tick you off.
4. Monster Rancher 2 (PSX)
The trick is to rais a monster strong enough to defeat all enemies. And then when it's ready, the next week, it dies.
This is subject to change.
3. Megaman Legends (PC Ver.)
Since I'm so new to this, I'm still having trouble getting used to things. There's a lot of things that are so hard to do from as simple as talking to someone to lockng-on to an enemy. This is subject to change.
2. Megaman X6 (PSX)
Some levels make it so hard that your only chance is to cheat by activating the Ultimate Armor. Some enemies are more irritating than hard.
1. R-Types (PSX)
This refers to both R-Type and R-Type 2. To get past the levels, you must do a series of trial and error on most places.
It's only slightly easier on an emulator, but I've played it on a PS1, and it's ridiculously hard.

1. Phantom Brave (PS2)
This tactics RPG is made by the same creators as the Disgaea series, but this game is WAY more frustrating and not nearly as fun. Enemies are far too overpowered and your characters vanish after about 3-5 turns. Quite possibly the most difficult game I've completed.
2. F-Zero GX (Gamecube)
Very fun. However, some of the story missions are ridiculous, especially on very hard mode.
3. High Seas Havoc (Genesis)
Difficult 2D side-scrolling game. Very long, very frustrating, and very limited continues (game over means you start ALL over). Still fun though.
4. Bomberman 64: The Second Attack (N64)
Possibly the most underrated game ever. It seems like no one knows about this game but it's incredible in my opinion. The puzzles at some parts made me shudder though, and a lot of fights were overwhelming. The word "Game Over" in its blue/green text quickly became fried into my retinas.
5. Sonic Shuffle (Dreamcast)
Terrible game. Sonic rip off of Mario party, only the game is based almost entirely on luck.
And I can completly empathize with you on Megaman X6.

I'm willing to check out Bomber Man 64: The Second Attack if I ever find it. I think it's way to easy (except for some enemies) from the ones I've seen.

5. Super Monkey Ball series (GCN)
sometimes feels like luck is a major factor in winning some of the stages
4. Adventures of Bayou Billy (NES)
gotta use cheap tactics and clinches to win. Enemies are just as good as you bofl
3. Ghosts and Goblins (NES)
brutally difficult in every aspect
2. God Hand (PS2)
great game with a really hard learning curve. Both Hard to learn and hard to master.
1. Gradius 3+4 [especially 3 (PS2)]
almost beat gradius 4 once but i can't even beat the bubble level in 3. Too hard.

Well part why I found it hard may have been because I first played it when I was fairly young (hey, its for N64). There were these things in the game called "Generator Rooms" where you had to use certain tactics to reach all of the targets in the room while it was full of enemies. I just remember some of those were very stressful the first time through. Plus, a lot of the bosses, especially the final boss, are just plain cheap.

5. Super Monkey Ball series (GCN)
I've never played the Super Monkey Ball series, but I always thought it looked like something I would like. Especially since I like Sonic a lot.

5. Mortal Kombat 1,2,&3 [any system not genesis] (cause the computer cheats)
4. Contra 4 [DS] (get ready for a slaughter-fest where your the main course)
3. Ninja Gaiden 1 [NES] (die on any of the last 3 bosses and begin the entire level from the beginning... only beat this by emulation and using pause-save state cheating)
2. Driver 1 [PS1] (last mission only, I managed to pass it one time)
1. Q-Bert [Atari] (due to controls making you suicidal)
0. Dragon Slayer 1,2, Space Ace, Brain Dead 13 [Laser Dics, DVD and PS1] (because I haven't had the patience, understanding, memorization, to beat any of them yet)

It's rare as hell, like around 120$ on Ebay.

In no particular order.
Devil May Cry: Goes out of its way to make everything as hard as possible, and not in a fun way.
Guilty Gear XX: Pretty tough as fighting games go anyway, but mission mode is just insane.
Ghosts 'n Goblins: Really hard old school platformer. I could probably count the number of times I've gotten through stage 2 on one hand.
NetHack: Duh.
Super C: Way more difficult than Contra was.

Hardest game I've played would have to be "I wanna be the Guy".

F-Zero GX (GCN): Painfully difficult game, courtesy of some cheesy AI. Thanks Sega!
Mega Man Zero (GBA): Was expecting something along the lines of Mega Man X3. Nearly chucked the cartridge out the window.
Gradius V (PS2): The Vic Viper's hitbox is so small that if you're not precise in your movements, you're screwed...
Ninja Gaiden/Ninja Gaiden Black (XBOX)/Ninja Gaiden Sigma (PS3): Even on the easiest difficulty this game is overly difficult.
Radiant Silvergun (SATURN)/Ikaruga (DC/GCN): You like Bullet Hell? You'll love these two games.

Exor: Yeah, the megaman games have a knack of introducing unique features and characteristics on the first game, then they drop it for the next succeeding games.
And to iterate/change the rules, yes, rhythm games or games that require physical movements are allowed, just leave them a last resort when you can't name another game.
