Oh I can finally ask these two:

Why are there some official categories that are empty? Are they supposed to be placeholders?

Also how come Para Max is a flat 190 while the X special charts arent?

Indeed, these are placeholders for when someone creates simfiles for them. As for when they'll be filled, I don't know.

...huh, that's interesting. I'll need to check this with razorblade.

Love the idea of this thread.

It's my understanding that songs are placed in the folders where they first debuted in AC and not necessarily the game they debuted in (CS etc) is this correct?

There are categories with duplicates of songs, for example PSJ 2ndReMIX, I'm guessing this is because of different charts? With that being said would it be possible to make zip folders for the CS or old charts and have them under the same song? This of course would not be for songs that have different cuts etc.

I was actually going to post something to this effect. DDR II has some songs in the category despite them having debuted in AC (most of the Konami originals at this point, except for the ones that got new charts).

That is usually the case, yes.

The duplicates are for different charts, yes. Having separate ZIP files for the same song seems like a hassle; the best option you could do would be to include the extras as EDIT charts. I'll be honest, I don't think I or any of the other folks who manage the official sims want to go through all that trouble. 😅

The X-Special charts have been patched. Turns out they're all a flat BPM. Thanks, razorblade!

I think it would be somewhat interesting if the BPM values used in the ssq files themselves were always left available as an option alongside more optimized values (either commented out in favor of those optimizations or viceversa)

here's an example for quick master (which for some reason has commented-out values identical to the called ones as of posting this)
//optimized sync
#BPMS:0=153.159,4=145.09;
//DDR sync below
//#BPMS:0=146.939,4=151.345,7.75=140.625,8=147.541,10=142.857,11=145.161,12=147.541,15=134.328,16=146.739,19=145.161,20=145.161,23=140.625,24=146.341,26=145.161,28=144.578,32=145.161,34=147.541,35=140.625,36=152.542,37=145.161,40=145.946,43=138.462,44=150,45=143.617,48=145.946,51=136.364,52=150,53=147.541,55=145.161,55.5=140.625,56=147.541,58=142.857,59=134.328,60=157.895,61=145.161,62=142.857,63=145.161,67=145.161,68=145.161,70=144,72=147.541,73=147.541,74=145.161,76=145.005,91=138.462,92=152.542,93=142.857,94=145.161,101=146.341,103=142.857,104=146.739,107=140.625,108=144.578,112=145.946,115=142.857,116=147.541,117=145.161,119=142.857,120=147.541,121=143.617,124=145.161,127=145.161,129=144,131=145.161,132=152.542,133=145.161,134=145.161,135=146.739,135.75=125,136=145.946,139=145.161,140=144.578,144=145.749,148=144.966,160=145.161,164=147.541,165=145.161,167=140.625,168=150,169=142.857,170=150,171=130.435,172=152.542,173=147.541,176=145.161,183=145.161,188=145.161,203=145.161,204=145.683,213=145.833;

as for what the optimization does here, it syncs to just one instrument (the hi-hats) instead of trying to sync to everything and causing a mess; i'll assume that jank comes from the instruments having different offsets while the song itself is constant

Sorry for the late reply, but this is an excellent idea! I'm not sure where to start if we were to implement this.
