This cab design just makes me miss DDR SOLO.
I know this most likely isn't gonna be a proper rhythm game, but I still wonder if it'll have any unique music.

I'm on the fence about this.

On one hand, if DDR Stomp Arrows is a redemption game, then it might be easier than regular DDR, or it might change things up compared to regular DDR games.

On the other hand, many arcade chains like Xscape, Level Up (from Landmark Cinemas), D&B, Splitsville and many others heavily depend on ticket-based games. While this is sad for those of us who want traditional games, having a ticket-based DDR may help the game expand to hundreds of arcades.

Please Do It Right, Konami.

If that second image from top post is anything to go by, the likelyhood of regular arcade that aren't Round1 getting this is slim as it apparently has network functions. I doubt its eamuse...but Konami has done stupider shit before.

Interesting. Has there been an interest in a SOLO revival lately? I'm curious to see this thing in action. Wonder what the UI looks like.

Someone on another Discord server I'm in made a good point: If an arcade has both this and the mainline game, then that should be beneficial for hardcore players since casuals will be more drawn to this game as it'll earn them tickets. Of course, the worst-case scenario is that it ends up eclipsing mainline DDR entirely—my nightmare scenario would be Rec Rooms across Canada electing to replace their Pump It Up cabinets with these as it'd fulfill their need for a "dance game" while also being a better credit muncher.

I saw a video of it in action; it has a radial interface like Music Diver, where the notes come from the centre and move out to the edges of the screen. I guess it might be more intuitive of an interface for casual play? Ticket earnings are hardcapped so that players like us can't beat the house—it reminds me of arcade Piano Tiles games.

i just hope redemption arcade owners don't decide to replace the normal cabs with these (even if they were to end up over here cuz yeah, konami doesnt like europe Dead), apart from that seems pretty alright for casuals, i wonder how the tickets will be calculated n stuff

None at that Round1 of course, but we're speculating on how other arcade ops would react to this cab entering the market...

A lot of Round1s have more than one DDR cab. I doubt any of them are seeing this and thinking they should get rid of their cabs, if anything they're army building. And as long as Konami insists on pushing revenue sharing I don't think any other arcades are gonna be looking at getting rid of their non-revenue share cabs for one of these.

The video is okay, but it's hard to hear the music. The first song is the classic "William Tell Overture" (specifically the finale) for about 45 seconds. Of course, we then see "Party Rock Anthem" for 48 seconds. I can't tell what the third song is, but it sounds classical.

For a new game, I'm surprised that there's very little info. There's no website, and we have very few photos and videos so far. The way the arrows scroll reminds me of MC Groovz Dance Craze, or some Marathon and Survival courses in ITG2. It's a little confusing, and I doubt it helps beginners learn the main DDR game. Also, the DJ/announcer from DDR World returns. Ugh! What a goofy voice! I prefer the DJs from previous games. The step charts look easy, and the "Super Bonus Challenge" is like the wheel in TPIR.

Overall, it's not a terrible game, but it's Great! at best, closer to a basketball machine. Galaga Assault with tickets and Pac-Man's Ticket Mania are also short, but at least play like the classics. Will I prefer this DDR over other ticket games? Maybe, but I think most players want the main game. If this DDR had short but classic gameplay, like PIU shortcuts, that'd be ideal. Now, to answer other comments:

my nightmare [is if] Rec Rooms […] replace their [PIU] with these

Yeah, I'm definitely concerned that DDR Stomp Arrows will be installed at arcades that formerly had DDR and ITG2. To answer sodapone, I think Xscape would go for this. That chain and Cineplex once had dozens of dance machines, maybe around 100. Today, with at least 81 Xscape arcades, only 17 are known to have dance games, in variable condition. I noticed Cineplex removing over a dozen dance machines, mostly DDR Extreme, in the past 10 years. Also, other dance games are almost nonexistent. What a pity!

Most Xscape locations depend heavily on ticket games, so installing DDR Stomp Arrows there makes sense. Are they good to replace games like DDR Extreme? So far, no, given that Stomp Arrows is a ticket-first game. However, it could lead to more players requesting the main DDR game, especially at the busiest locations.

Arcades like The Rec Room, Dave & Busters and Round1 have a decent selection of traditional games. They might also pick up DDR Stomp Arrows, but I expect that these machines will compliment the main dance machines, not replace them.

Quote: blitzen
(even if they were to end up over here cuz yeah, konami doesnt like europe Dead)

It's disappointing that Europe is still releasing DDR A20+ as a new offline-only game. That said, Dave & Buster's in Canada and the USA is also limited to DDR A20+, with machines at almost 70 locations out of 173. Many DDR machines are online, but visiting a D&B or Round1 with DDR can be a long trip. I'm hoping that games like DDR World will expand there, and at more venues worldwide.

Its kool to see 'new ideas' but this makes me want to throw up Big Grin.

Not a fan of how a lot of UK arcades have transitioned to ticket redemption garbage (Though i do understand a lot probably wouldnt exist without it)
