I've been getting back to simfile making lately, and I would like to know your thoughts on this:

When making simfiles, do you start with the hardest charts (Expert/Challenge) first? I've always considered that option as the one that "fully establishes the difficulty of the song" I would call it, since that's the difficulty that majority of DDR/Stepmania players play (to put it nicely Tongue).

I tend to do the opposite, starting with Beginner and/or Basic, as I would call "building blocks," in determining the charts' overall difficulty, especially once I start stepping the highest difficulties. I hope you understand my choice of words. Laughing Out Loud

TL;DR: How do you set up your charts in simfiles? Highest difficulties first or lowest?

when it comes to my files with multiple charts i tend to do the hardest one first, since i can put my idealized concepts in a better way there
though in sunny day i did Light first

APPEND 12/7/20 - and i use audacity for cutting. while arrowvortex is my main syncing tool, i use audacity for that when i want to be more accurate with bpm changes

I always do Heavy first, then BeginnerLightStandard in that order. Challenge last.

Honestly, I don't really have a consistent order when it comes to simfile difficulties. I did the Light for Profession first, though that was mostly because I knew I wanted to reference its SDVX chart with it. Most of the time, though, I go Heavy -> Light -> Standard

i usually go easiest to hardest, though sometimes i feel inspired to do a certain chart (usually heavy) and i do that first. it just depends. there's really no wrong way to do it. you can always go back and make changes if you're worried about difficulty balance or something like that

I like to go from Heavy to Light, with Heavy I feel like I get a better grasp of how the song feels (instrumental, vocals, pace, etc.)

Well for me I go in reverse(Beginner to Expert) and I usually place 4th notes in the spots that catches the beat to the music and then as I'm going up in difficultly, I start adding other arrows(8th notes, 12th notes, 16th notes, etc.) You know what I mean.

In my case, BEGINNER (only in some songs) -> BASIC -> DIFFICULT -> EXPERT -> CHALLNEGE (or CHALLENGE-only songs).
BEGINNER is skipped in most songs when I playing SINGLE and DOUBLE charts (due to BEGINNER charts aren't in DOUBLE).

For making banners, backgrounds, jackets and cdtitles I use Adobe Photoshop and paint.net, For music videos I edit with either Adobe After Effects or VSDC Video Editor (prefer VSDC because I can export to AVI easier)

For editing the MP3's I use WavePad Sound Editor.

I tend to go with Heavy first to figure out the difficulty curve for the rest of the charts.
Challenge comes later if im feeling the song needs either:
A boost in difficulty
An extra chart that mirrors heavy, (old era charts)
or shock arrow chart. (Following the current style of charting.)
While not as important but i try to include doubles also to round out the simfile itself.
As always i start with Heavy and end with Challenge if need be.
