Just wondering, about the component AV cable

Does it worth 20USD for a PS2? I know it works for PS3 also, but I don't have it yet. Does it really make a difference between a regular cable (Red, White and Yellow ones) and the component AV cable (Green, Blue, Red, White and Red)?:3

Oh my god, yes it makes a world of difference.

But In my opinion, an S-Video cable is good enough for a PS2 (of course, if you're planning on moving onto PS3, I recommend you go for the Component).

You see, a component cable is like a Composite (regular) cable. The difference, however, is that the Green, Blue, and Red cables send a lot more than one measly yellow cable. The same applies with S-Video, as it sends more signals than the yellow cable.

In short, buy it. Your visual quality will increase and you will not be able to go back to Red, White, and Yellow.

BTW, I can't play DDR on that TV, because its timing seems to be a tad slow, anyone knows how to fix it?? (I am playing a JP PS2 console, and DDRMAX(JP) to DDR SuperNOVA. (SN2 on the way)

You can edit the timing's sync in one of the options' menus, IIRC. It's all manual, though, so you gotta try them each by trial and error until you find the sync that works.

The timing does not differ between which cables you use for your PS2, it's all down to your TV.

Luckily I have a CRT that supports component so... no lag and awesome quality!

I used to play it on a 20" CRT from like 7 years ago, but since I got a HD 42" as a prize, why not utilize it too?
But the games I've been testing are prettu blur up in the HD TV.

The same thing happens on our LCD HDTV. You can calibrate the timing in the graphics options like Goldensunboy said.
Component video also supports progressive scan video output, which is better quality than interlaced output.

From my experience, trying to get IIDX on sync with HDTVs isnt worth it, as it never felt 100% on. I would stick with a CRT if you can....but thats just me.

Any of the previous generation consoles, except Wii, as that's only 720x480, only look good on CRTs, on HDTVs they just look blurry and crap.

Component cables are awesome; better than S-Video and Composite! Using component cables on an SD CRT is the equivalent (if not better) to using HDMI cables on an LCD/DLP/Plasma TV.

I have a Toshiba 26" WideScreen SD CRT with Official Sony component cables connected with my PS2, and I must admit that the picture quality from my PS2 games surely rival that of an HDTV's. It's actually damn-nearly VGA quality...iPhone clarity on a widescreen TV.

As for S-Video VS Component, S-Video increases the brightness a bit more than component, but component increases sharpness and clarity.


....even with all the High Definition stuff now, I still don't believe that HD > VGA.

So is there any big screen TV (>29") that is not using CRT and syncs pretty good??

I tried my new SN2(JP) on the Plasma, it sucks! No matter how many times I tried to change the timing, it never did the job right!!
