Come June (my birthday) I'll be joining the IIDX crowd, via the US CS version. I've been reading about modding the standard controller by putting sheets of cut wax paper between the trays. Is this really a good thing to do? Wouldn't wax from the wax paper start to build up inside the controller? In short, should I do this mod or just use the controller as-is?

It really depends on how loose your turntable is when you get it. If it's somewhat hard to move, then go for it. The one I'm currently using was pretty loose when I got it, so I've had no need for wax paper.
