I'm entertaining the idea of adding a sound card to my machine as I've always plugged my speakers directly into the motherboard without issue. Would a dedicated sound card produce a notable difference in sound quality and will it add any sound lag?

"But enough talk! Have at you!"
1. You probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference, unless the DAC in your motherboard is really bad
2. It might have less sound lag, if you buy a sound card with low latency. Otherwise it might have more.

I have nice speakers which helps, and I never noticed the sound from my motherboard to be blatantly awful. Looks like I can just stick with what I'm using then.
