osu! - rhythm is just a click away
Basically the Osu! Tatake! Ouendan / Elite Beat Agents (Nintendo DS) simulator for Windows. It's best played with a touch-panel computer. Requires .NET Framework 2.0 to run.
Since registration is free, I'm not worried. But please remember that there's a limit of beatmap downloads in a specific time, to prevent leechers.
Beatmaps are simfiles obviously, but I haven't tested the Edit feature yet. I was checking a few charts on Autoplay unfortunately.

An example of osu! beatmap, IIDX famous song. Not me playing.
This game is purely awesome, just go and download it, you'll see by yourself.

I'm surprised more people haven't heard of this. I enjoy it, been playing it for about three years. Still not very good, especially in comparison to the truly legendary players. However, it's great for a short evening of gaming!
Highly recommended.
Highly recommended.

Been playing this for 3 years, not straight though. The last time I take this game seriously was early 2009. The interesting point of this game is the beatmaps actually, there are so many broad ranges of music, from music that no one knows to the pop music, even Indonesian Pop Music. The beatmaps are also fun to play (because they all are user made, not like they want to give pop songs to newer player and give it an easy difficulty).

I've beeen signed up to this since it was new (member #3290), and I'd also highly recommend it, especially if you have a way to play it with a touch screen (which I unfortunately don't).
I will warn those that haven't played this of two things:
-Some beatmaps (moreso in the higher end) have a somewhat misleading difficulty, as they're automatically rated; usually small hitcircles cause this most often from what I know.
-The scoring system is very heavily based on combo; missing in the exact middle of the song may cut down your score potential to maybe even as low as 30-40%. Thankfully, missing a portion of a slider doesn't combo-break (though it will miss a combo number, resulting in a lower combo).

Actually this problem has been solved a long time ago. It might only happen in beatmaps from 2007 and early 2008 because of not specified creating rules that time. Now all the difficulties are clear and every player on every level of advance can enjoy all the songs in the database.

Thank you, I was thinking that there were few grammar errors in that sentence

Damn, I'm being too perfectionist in grammar (basically everything) lol
Either way:

Huh, I'm asking myself why this thread is dead.
I've been playing osu! for almost 4 years now. I did make longer breaks quite often. I usually play Taiko mode as I like it more than playing standard with mouse
Also there are the monthly charts where you can compete with other players at specific maps. If you've accumulated enough ranked score on one of the three modes and are first place, you can win one month of osu! supporter.
Anyway, maybe some will find it interesting because this month's themed chart is Dance Dance Revolution. So start up osu! and play some DDR songs :V

Yeah I found osu! about a year ago and its quite awesome cause it doesn't require weird and expensive controllers imported from japan. there are alot of IIDX song on there and as long has you stick with anything made 2010-present all of the songs are pretty good

osu! just got an update now which includes a brand new mode called osu!mania.
This is pretty much similar to Beatmania and DJMax. It's still a bit WIP so online rankings aren't activated yet but I don't think it will take long until this gets activated too.

I think the BMS files can be converted to osu!mania. They have recently updated to allow per-object hitsound. The only thing is I don't know anything about the .bme file format. If I could get some information on this I could convert all the BMSes and we could have a work IIDX simulator in english that is not abandoned

Whee I play osu too~ My profile.
I play all 4 game modes~
I'm actually working on an authentic mania map project, if you have osu accounts and authentic maps, please contribute there~

There is bms/bme-to-osu! converter, and it even works quite well (I tried it), so osu!mania thoretically can be the best IIDX simulator with online features, but peppy (main osu! developer) doesn't intersted in this at all, so forget about this.

Bump !
Since I've been playing this a lot lately, figured I'd toss my profile if anyone wants to play.
I play mania mode mostly,
but I can play Taiko (Muzu, Easy Onis) and Standard (Hard) just fine.
http://osu.ppy.sh/u/235776
Mania mode has some really nice charts now, well it's very different from IIDX, but if you've played o2jam before, you'll have no trouble...
Lots and lots ofyummy noodlesLN.
Well, about half of the ranked songs are boring anime stuff (just my opinion, all those opening sound so similar to my ears...), but the rest is quite good.

Well I may as well toss my crap on here too since it's already been bumped.
Profile: http://osu.ppy.sh/u/155318
Mostly play standard, but play a lot of Mania as well. Been playing for 5 years.
