We're having a debate in the X2 work thread.
What's everyone's take on syncing your StepMania to this simfile?
(in my experience, it seems for most people, it should require no adjustment to your global offset (0.000000). For some, however, it does.)
IMHO, everyone should sync their StepMania to that song. We're having a debate in the X2 work thread.

As you said most require no adjustment to global offset, for some though a change is needed. Once everyone is synched to this simfile then we would all have a standard for simfiles and no longer will adjusting GAP be a prerequisite to enjoying a file.
That song also comes directly from StepMania 4.0, there's an option to perform a machine sync which plays that song and steps and will adjust your GlobalOffset for you.
Also all of my simfiles are synched based on that file, so if you sync your machine accordingly you can play all of my simfiles without need for adjustment.
The only shame here is that a standard song took to long to be introduced, such that most don't use it.

No. Ignore the person above. This is not our standard of syncing.
However what he said has some relevance, a clear idea of what the syncing should be is to download a song from this website and sync your global offset to that then bingo.
Do not get confused with SM 4.0 and ITG sync which is slightly different.

SM4.0, 3.9, 3.95, ITG, could have all been exactly the same if someone would pick a standard and stick to it. For instance the difference from ITG2 AC R16(and higher) and that song is 0.010 ms.If I had my way all Offsets would be based on this one song.

Hey I thought something happened to you.I waited MONTHS for you to send me the steps from HP3, you ignored PM's, eventually I made all the steps myself (if you had them done you caused me to waste MANY HOURS of my time). I assumed something had happened to you, why didn't you respond to my PM's or send the .SM files to someone?? That was funked up man!!

I'm not sure how to explain this, but I'll try the best I can. I'm currently making a simfile for One Reason by DWB feat. fade, aka the Deadman Wonderland opening theme. The way I'm making the steps for it is by recording with the music as it goes. When I play back the song from the beginning to see how good my steps were, the song is perfectly synced. But, when I start the song from a different part, for example, the middle, the music starts from the beginning but the steps are starting from the middle where I told it to start. Why is it doing that?

Is it a recurring problem each time you boot up stepmania? If so, try deleting the old sm/dwi file and reload the songs and metric to see if that fixes the issue.

I remember having this glitch some time ago - what version of StepMania are you using? SM5a3 works fine for me, at least.Post #27 · Posted at 2012-10-05 03:08:35am 12.5 years ago

Need help please. I made a song and video in edit mode and its in perfect sync. But when i play it in game mode the video and song is out of sync. Why is that? (yes i do save before i exit edit mode)
I worked it out by myself. Don't need any help. People here ignore forums anyway. I won't be back here again, and no one will get my songs.

(bump) I know that I shouldn't revive older thread but it is still important and we need more step editors.
For the record.
First, the program mentioned here we can find it in:
https://bpm-analyzer.en.uptodown.com/windows (free version)
I tested and it is more or less correct. It detects my example song as 107.99
I tried with FL-STUDIO (paid app) and it detects the same 107.99 but It suggest to change to 108.

However, there is another solution. Arrowvortex is practically the de-facto editor for steps:
https://arrowvortex.ddrnl.com/ (free too)
And it includes a bpm detector. Instructions here:
Open the program and add an mp3
then in the menu tempo -> find bpm -> select one -> apply bpm.

I've tested many and it works really well. It also detects multi-bpms.
Sadly, it doesn't mark where the bpm changes in the time (for song with variables bpms).
