Bump, but I'd thought I share.
http://aaronin.jp/konamiinterview.pdf
This interview contains some rather trivia regarding DDR itself.
Some of which include how MAX was to feature screen filters but did not due to concerns expressed by the designers who drew background art for songs, a 60 FPS upgrade for 4th MIX PLUS, and 5th Mix solo charts.
This can also be found on RemyWiki.

So that's why I have the urge to listen to 777 every time I hear the Pucca theme song.

uwu bump :3:
- yuni appears in the bg clips during songs in ULTRAMIX 3 but she was not playable until one game later
- kind lady (interlude)'s chart is an copy of DROP THE BOMB(SySF Mix)'s chart in ULTRAMIX 2
- all the Konami originals in SOLO BASS MIX except for Paranoia Evolution were recorded in Miami, Florida featuring vocalists featured in the Dancemania BASS series
- AM-3P was the first song to feature vocals of some kind and Japanese ones too (hopefully people know BRILLIANT 2U uses vocal samples and they don't say DDR in that song misconceptions smh)
- DIAMONDS from DDR FESTIVAL (no one remembers that song but idc) is actually the GITADORA cover shortened and the GITADORA version is still playable in arcades as of writing this post so if u come across EXCHAIN go play it ig
- oldest license in DDR that's still playable is LA BAMBA from EXTREME if you count that as an license (Konami does but not for the SN ver so idk), counting remixes of Konami Originals oldest license is CSFILSM
- gorgeous 2012's in festival was altered in SN to fix some quantization errors and excess arrows, and is the only FESTIVAL transplant to receive that treatment in SN I believe so roast me if I'm wrong bc I'm dumb
- DDR ultramix 2 also contains bg clips of AFRO and LADY's appearance in ULTRAMIX 1 even tho they have different looks now
- DDR diet channel aka ダイエットチャンネル aka one of the few DDR mixes no one cares about is one of the first if not the first DDR game to feature jackets
edited post so no one accuses me ofhearsay spreading fake info but anyways

Here's something interesting i found out, apparently there was a contest where fans could choose which song from another BEMANI game would get crossovered into DDR EXTREME, the winner was Across The Nightmare. The other songs were Cat Song ~Theme of UPA, DJ BATTLE, FLOWERS for ALBION, Morning Music, THE SAFARI, Threshold Lebel, Waza, and WITHOUT YOU AROUND. Has anyone made a simfile for any of these songs yet?

These are the songs we held a poll for to see which one would be added in the next DDR XX update. That's why we picked these ones specifically. You'll see a simfile for one of them pretty soon. Post #2328 · Publicado en 2019-04-11 01:49:22pm Hace 5.4 años

realest talk, only like 3 of these would've actually worked in DDR. most of them barely even work in their own games.that being said, i'm actually surprised THE SAFARI and WITHOUT YOU AROUND haven't been added in over time.

I'm now wondering how DJ BATTLE's charts would've been. I mean, considering the song has lots of scratches it could've been a really easy song.

Now that DDR has a Class mode, THE SAFARI could've been a good crossover. Also, I'm wondering the same thing about ULTRA HIGH-HEELS (does anyone have an actual source of that song being on 4thMIX's location test?)Post #2331 · Publicado en 2019-04-12 03:17:33am Hace 5.4 años

The 2 versions (DDR 2010 and DDR II) are not focused on the X2 style but on the X3. (Fonts and blue bg for DDR II)
There are little variations in style because of the konami songs were going to be for X3. (the majority of them)
DDR II had to add X2 songs because there were not another way because of DDR 2010 in PS3 was awful and decided not add DDR in that console.

I feel like I'm the only one who thought of this but the Universe 3 characters are similar to the Ultramix 4 characters. (I'm not sure if this is a good place to post this though so if it isn't please tell me.
Valencia reminds me of Honey because they have similar hair (only difference is Honey is A Blondie Girl and Valencia has orange hair.) Their eye structure is similar compare Valencia's DDR Windows eye structure to Ultramix 4 Honey's.
Guy reminds me of B' mostly because Honey and B' are friends or they are in love, and it seems to be the same with Valencia and Guy.
Rico and Silvia being similar to Astro and Charmy because they cosplay but they cosplay as completely different things. (Rico and Silvia: Anime Characters, Astro and Charmy: Future People)
Miki and Yuni is an obvious one because of their impatient and bratty rich girl attitude (nah JK they both are good.)I swear if Miki's Last Name is Verse I will yell out I Knew It.)
I can't think of any other similarities but it's no surprise that both games use the same Quest Mode, only different thing is that club owners are avatars and Quest Mode and Challenge Mode is combined.

I went snooping through the UNIVERSE 3 data again and found some oddities. I don't know if these have been posted before but as far as I know these are new. Correct me if I'm ignorant.
In the data most jackets appear twice: once as a 256x256 and again as a finished 512x512 image. There are several jackets that only appear as 256x256 .png files, hinting at some songs that were slated for revivals and some brand new licenses that never surfaced.
Some licenses:
Jackets for Me and My Friends, ON THE JAZZ Smooth House Mix, The Tide, and White Hot are also present. I'm assuming these were all meant to be DLC, although The Tide's presence is inexplicable. ON THE JAZZ Smooth House Mix's and White Hot's jackets received text but otherwise remain similar to their UNIVERSE counterparts.
Other jackets in this part of the data include functional ones on the songwheel (ABC/BPM/Artist Order jackets and the RANDOM jacket) but I don't recognize a few of them. I took a quick peek at the game and didn't find them, which makes me believe the songwheel looked a little different in early builds of the game. Either that or they are found in-game and I was just too negligent and hasty to see them. If these made appearances in the online mode then I guess that would explain a lot.
I guess at some point you could access the NONSTOP mode directly from GAME MODE.
This one might have had a similar function. I like this one the most for obvious reasons.
Maybe there used to be a slot for hidden songs? I don't know what else this could have been.
This one seems self-explanatory, probably similar in function to song previews in the early Japanese PS/PS2 releases.
Also, every dancer outfit combination is saved as a different image in the data, which is the most inefficient method possible to handle character customization.
EDIT: I forgot one thing. MAKE IT BETTER SO REAL MIX's background is included in the data with the jackets. While the jackets are listed in alphabetical order (not including articles like 'a' or 'the'), MAKE IT BETTER SO REAL MIX's terribly cropped background appears twice, neither time in the correct spot.

Yeah, I think this makes sense, especially considering the DLC pack of covers that were temporarily available came as a quintet, as did the missing licenses. I don't know if this theoretical pack would have been a supplement to or a replacement for the Somatone/Wavegroup cover pack, since graphics for those also exist in 256x256 form and their finished 512x512 products. I guess it's worth noting that graphics for the DLC songs are present on the disc, so I'm not entirely sure what exactly you download whenever you buy the packs. I wonder if the Don't You (Forget About Me) track was actually the cover from Hottest Party 2.Quote: DDR_Oshawott

I'll hop on my laptop in a few minutes and look through the images again. There was some information on characters but from what I remember it is fragmentary and not terribly promising for your hopes.EDIT: So, as I remembered, the characters are handled largely as skeletons with textures plopped on top of them. Their clothing is drawn as sprites that are generally disorganized and are only used for reference points. Because they don't have fluid faces, they cycle through a series of animations which, when represented in the Windows Explorer shell, is the scariest fucking thing I've ever goddamn seen:
This is how all of the dancers are constructed, clothed, and animated. I'm pretty sure Valencia is one of the two dancers pictured here. She also has some additional artwork for her Quest Mode overlays:
But this is the best you're going to get. The only full models in the data are the custom dancers in every single possible outfit.
Sitting in the middle of the thousands of clothing/dancer assets is the cursed woman from Exotic ethnic OR-IF-IS Mix, by the way:
