I downloaded a DDR 4th mix song (Cats Eye, one of my faves) Problem is I put it in either the songs or packages and it wont come up in the game.... its not a smzip file obviously, whats the trick in making it work? Sorry for my newbieness, i know that can be annoying,

We all were newbs at one point.1st Make sure there is a .MP3 file OR a .OGG file.
2nd Make sure there is a .SM file OR a .DWI file.
3rd Make sure the folder structure is Songs \ DDR 4th mix \ Cats Eye (If you are missing any of these folders StepMania won't recognize it, such as if you have Songs \ DDR 4th mix \ New Folder \ Cats Eye it won't work, similarly if you have Songs \ Cats Eye, it also won't work).
If the above are all accurate, go to Options - Reload Songs and see if that doesn't make it appear.
If you do all of the above there's no obvious reason why StepMania won't recognize your file. Download the file again and make sure the .SM or .DWI file is filled out.

Thank you it worked, i was mistakenly putting it in the packages folder where i was instructed to place all the original smzip files in!

You said it. SMZIP files go in Packages. Individual songs go in... well, Songs.
