DDR PC Edition (USA)

Remember back around 2002 when Konami Entertainment of Hawaii was producing a PC version of DDR? (and no, I am not talking about StepMania) There is ACTUALLY a PC version for DDR, and what it is contains a heavily modified 4thMIX engine, the songs are sorted into about five groups, and the character roster is expanded (they can be unlocked in the game itself or downloaded from the Konami Hawaii website, but Konami Hawaii is gone.). All the songs in the game do not need to be unlocked; they are available at the start (which is a sad thing), but all of them are Konami originals and beatmania crossovers. The PC edition also had 6-Panels mode and a COUPLE-like Battle mode. The scoring system is much stricter, like the one shown on my thread here. Before Konami Hawaii website was down, they made a Trial version of the PC version and the only choices available in the PC Trial are:

* Single Play
* Basic Sequence
* Rage or Emi as playable dancers
* "Midnite Blaze"

DDR PC Edition is a nice game for DDR players who do not have a game console or who does not how to operate StepMania properly.

How the hell would someone fuck up Stepmania?

It was available for retail (Dancervic claimed to have bought it). But if you (or someone) seriously prefers this over stepmania, you may as well buy Anymania. And darkknight mentions frame rate problems on a fairly modern PC setup.

But to the game's credit, the song selection interface was nice and included bgscripts which may be easier to rip out than the PS1 games. But I do wish it downloadable song packs were available because songs unlocked from the beginning seriously reduces a game's lifespan like the possibly expensive Dancing Stage Euromix, which included songs from EMI (aka Dancemania*, Arcade version only) and Universal Music Group.

*while Konami and Dancemania had a deal about free usage of songs in exchange for advertisement, the European home ports of DDR use local licenses in favor of the ones used in the American and the Japanese versions.

In their defense I didn't know how to work stepmania until a year after I had it....I was really new to computers and the internet then please don't hurt me.

I have a copy. its actually not that great. It had a ton of DDR characters to chose from and it looked nice but it had problems as well (framerate).

Konami made a US PC release based on 4thMIX (They actually ported the PlayStation code to the PC). It didn't really take off but it had a ton of free to download dancing characters. DDR for the PC is why StepMania has dancing characters, the code was lifted from DDR. All of the PC dancing characters were also ported to StepMania.

A couple years later AndrewOPL on DDRManiaX cracked the code for PlayStation DDR games and started porting those dancing characters to StepMania as well.

As for the songs, DDR actually had Solo Mode and gave 6-panel charts to two 5thMIX songs that previously didn't have them. When Extra Mix came out, they didn't give any of the songs Double charts that didn't already have them. When Konamix came out they didn't give any of the songs Solo charts that didn't already have them. But when DDR for the PC came out, they wrote two new Solo charts. Weird.

DDR for the PC was also made by Konami of Hawaii (Of ULTRAMIX fame)
