Just wondering if anyone uses this laptop. Stepmania is completely off sync here. The sounds are too early. Is there a way I can re-sync the laptop to match stepmania?
Note that it involves the laptop syncing to stepmania. If it's the other way around, I can fix that by adjusting the Global sync (forgot the name) under the Data.ini for SM3.9 and SM5 has a calibration option under the options. I'm just wondering if there's a way for the laptop itself to sync instead of stepmania.

Depends on how you connected your laptop and how you played so I don't think the specific laptop model is the issue.
Normally if you're playing via just the laptop's keyboard with the audio device being either its speakers or headphones connected to the 3.5mm jack slot it shouldn't be offsync.
If you connected it to a TV via HDMI or something that might have some noticeable input lag so that one for sure is just a global offset sync like you already mentioned.
If the audio device is connected via Bluetooth, that's definitely going to lag no matter what and there's nothing you could do about it really.

The laptop is not connected to any TV and I'm not using bluetooth earphones. It's just the plain laptop, nothing more, not even plug-in earphones.

If you're playing on full screen you might want to turn Vertical sync on via the graphics card settings (NVIDIA Control Panel or whatever the AMD equivalent is) perhaps that could help for starters.

I agree with turning off vsync in general with Stepmania 5. On all versions it’s completely broken and causes jitter and lag.

Didn't work regardless if full screen or not.

Assuming you use Windows, have you tried turning off "Audio Enhancement"? 99% of my sync problem stems from that.

Not yet, and I've never heard of that. Where in the settings is that? Audio I presume?

Right click the volume icon on the right bottom and select "Sounds". Go to "Playback" tab and select your audio device. Right click > Properties, go to "Advanced" tab, and make sure the "Enable audio enhancements" are unchecked.

Hi. Thanks for that. It actually worked. Now my next problem is how do I fix the global offset of Stepmania 5 manually like in Sm3.9

Define manually? You can edit preferences.ini in the Save folder or you can press F6 twice at the start of a song (once is sync song, twice is sync machine).

In sm3.9, i use the data.ini to fix the global offset. In sm5, i use the calibration option. I'm looking for the equivalent of data.ini if sm5. That's what i meant adjusting it manually instead of using the calibration sync.

In SM5 you use preferences.ini like I said, that’s where the global offset is saved. It’s in the saves folder. If you use portable mode (you should) it’s right there in the Stepmania directory. If you don’t then Stepmania creates it in your app data folder which is a hidden folder in your user folder.
