I’m kinda relieved there isn’t as much controversy here as I feared there would be about DDR really being on the brink of getting discontinued...
Because it was already kinda implied and accepted.

You know... the more I think about it, though...
DanceManiaX didn't kill DDR, and neither did ParaParaParadise. And would we honestly be sad to see THOSE in their tenth or fifteenth iterations now? I don't really think we would.
We should give DanceRush a chance to happen. And who knows? They can add a "DDR MODE" to it using the dance floor sensors that the game uses anyhow, right?

I want DanceRush to 100% be its own thing. There is no need for other BEMANI games to cater to DDR. It's simple entitlement.

Its really really hard to watch some people at R1 attempt to shuffle 💀

I'm curious to hear how people's experiences have been with DRS now that it's out at R1's in the US. Personally, I've barely seen people play this at my R1. Maybe because you only get two songs. I tried it out when someone left after their first song and it was okay... That said, as a bar hugging DDR player, I'm not likely to get into it anytime soon. Gorgeous machine though.

I played it during my group's trip to Round 1 last weekend, and I had a ton playing it. It really gives you a lot more freedom to do some more freeform movement while playing.
I don't think this is a "DDR Killer" or a "DDR replacement" at all. It feels more like its own thing, which is great. The only thing that isn't pulling me into the game more is just the current lackluster songlist, mostly due to it being small from just being recently released, but I'm sure as the game lives on the songlist will be a lot more expansive.

I think the game needs a ".1" update or something to find its groove before I can call it anything more than "fun enough." While the overall concept is neat, the package is pretty lacking.
For starters, the songs are just too short, and as stated above, you get two. I was thrilled to see Spinnin' show up and have the opportunity to try familiar songs, but there's not enough time to really enjoy them. Second, the game has no character at all. It's funny how much this doesn't seem to matter until you play a Bemani game that has none. The liveliest thing in this game is the title screen, and then you move to the song select, which is a single column of songs and that's pretty much it.
That said, I am interested to see where it goes and will still play it to unlock stuff here and there. But I feel like I'll play it in the same manner as those I've observed, in that the plays will generally be when waiting for DDR to free up.

I don't see DanceRush being too huge at my local Round1. I sometimes see people playing it, but DDR still looks like a way bigger draw. Of course, some of this might just be the times when I'm there, which just about never includes Saturdays which are presumably the biggest days.
As a DDR player who doesn't use the bar, I really thought DanceRush would be my jam... but it's not. I'll see other people playing it and looking super cool, but I always feel like a doofus.
Having 2 songs per play feels like not enough and I've yet to play a song that I really truly loved.
I'd hate to see a Bemani game crash and burn but I don't see it being popular enough to warrant much of a future unless there's some major update.

It's decently popular on Saturdays at the Middletown Round One but most people are still playing either Pump, DDR, or IIDX. Like, it definitely gets more plays than DanceEvo does, but that's not really saying much.
My opinion is that it's really fun but far from being a "DDR replacement" or "DDR killer". I can't speak for Japan where it might be absolutely huge but I really don't see it overtaking DDR in popularity in the states anytime soon. Or ever, really.

I'm pretty late to the party, but I finally got to try this game!
One thing I must say is that the game wasn't "dead" when I went to Round1 today; I saw two other people playing the game in addition to myself; I even got to play co-op with one of them!
One of the concerns I had about the game's co-op was that I was worried I wouldn't be able to see the screen because, obviously, the other person would be in front of you, but my worries were put to rest when they have the taller player play towards the back of the stage and you look at the top half of the screen. It was pretty awesome to play smoooch in person, though I wish it wasn't exclusive to co-op...
Which leads me to the stage itself; I'm a pretty tall guy, and when I was seeing footage of the game, I had minor concerns I'd accidentally hit the metal edges, but when you see the game in person, you see that the stage is actually a tad longer and wider than the videos make it out to be. I stretched my legs pretty far apart before I could touch both edges!
I normally don't like EDM, but the genre's actually perfect for the kind of game this is. The charts are (for the most part) straightforward, and I would rarely find myself tripping up. For the level 7-10 charts, you need to be in decent shape, or else it will physically kick your ass; I was able to do them decently, around the lower-mid 90% range, but after a while, I thought I was gonna puke. X_X
I only have two major beefs with this game (well, two and a half, but no one can help with the premium play/Paseli BS, but we're only missing out on two songs so far, so it's not that big of a deal yet):
1. You only get two songs per credit.
I get why some people complain about the songs being short, but because this game is a teensy bit more physically demanding than DDR because you have to make use of the extra real estate in comparison (plus jumping and bobbing down), I personally think the song lengths are perfectly fine. However, I would keep forgetting I would need to insert another credit after the 2nd song , and I would always want one more song like with all other music games. If we can't get the Paseli-features here where they can get 3 songs per credit, at least that should be standard in the US. :/ Even Groove Coaster 4 now has 3 songs per credit.
2. You have to grind to unlock songs.
This sorta ties into the first complaint, because you'll have to put in at least 2-3 sessions and get 5 stars on every song to even afford the fully discounted songs, which are at 30-35 stars. A lot of people aren't gonna have that much energy to consistently do this, especially if they've been concentrating on the harder charts. On the bright side, at least when you unlock the song, you get both difficulties, unlike DDR A where you only unlock the chart where your current difficulty was.
I think this game would benefit from an event system that's standard with all other arcade music games. Maybe for a week, every song is worth double stars, or if you play enough times, you unlock a song regardless of how many stars you have. Or even an extra stage system that doesn't require paseli would help immensely.
The game is super fun, and I can easily see myself playing this game every time I go to Round1 (and it helps that it's been getting more players here than Museca ever did), but I agree with the consensus that Konami is high if they think this is gonna replace DDR in the slightest. Just make this a series in it's own right, maybe make tournaments be freestyle-focused for KAC or whatever, and let the game develop it's own fanbase. But in order to do that, Konami will need to give this game as much TLC as they have been with IIDX/SVDX/DDR.
