Sorry to be the noob here...what happened to the project?//
razorblade stole the project to redistribute it in public arcades, getting money for something that doesn't ....and the project being used. the number of characters is like he uploads on youtube
Curilang also stated that razorblade had treated them like thieves
CORRECTION:
Only one arcade has it and it's nearest to my house. I set-up that machine. Eversince we converted their cab to SM, I never received any money from them. It was I who requested to convert their machine to SM, and since they grant us our dream request, I put all my stuffs and what's not.
And btw, that machine has been replaced with PIU XX cab since last year December. The minimaid was broken. We have nowhere to play DDR.
As this seems to be the discussion thread for the topic at hand.
I feel like this doesn't have to be said but people should've respected Encisso0720 and co's wishes of not having the Dancestages + Characters project distributed in public settings
That out of the way. My absolute favorite DanceStages are Capture Me and HP CYBERIUM
Capture Me because of how i got to view my BG's while playing and the color of CYBERIUM.
Also UMU movie as it could display my personal bg vids. (those being all of ITG1-REBIRTH

If were gonna talk about we customized our stepmania's, then I have this. I sorta started recreating the classic max-extreme bga sequences for some of the old songs that really like and assigned them to the CAPTURE ME stage. Needless to say, they fit so well.

You could still upload the cut-ins for people who use DancerVideos.

Is this really a necessary thread if Encisso doesn't want this project up anymore?

I only made this so we can just share our thoughts without cramming up Scrap Rabbits thread. that's all. I mean I'm pretty sure once things are said and done. then the thread can be locked in the end and we can just move on.

If you're distributing something made with or on top of stolen assets from a commercial game, you should expect the same to happen with it. You don't see this type of selfish attitude in any other place that deals with piracy.

It's a shame. After using SM for 17 years+ It was getting a bit boring looking at static background images, background scripts help but no one has time to do over a thousand scripts. When the dancers + stages finally came out, It kept SM feeling fresh/new. It was nice, and looked like a lot of work went into them.
It's sad that we won't be seeing those SuperNOVA and HP stages, I hope Enciso changes his mind and doesn't let 1 person ruin it for the rest of us.

They aren't the characters you would expect lol. Specifically, they're Louis-Concent III:02 and Queen-Zukin:02, whose cut-ins I based off their alternate colors (since their cut-ins used their original colors).Post #12 · Posted at 2022-02-25 11:13:44am 2.3 years ago

I actually made a small stepmania simulation with Takuya's DDR SuperNOVA2 as its theme using 3.9+ Redux. I used random movies of my own using PCSX2. I cannot feel the same kind of fun when I use random movies compared with what Encisso offered to us.
I had a stupid obsession way back when DDR SuperNOVA2 put two characters during versus play compared to SuperNOVA. I would ask my friends to play and record our arcade games so I can see the beauty of two characters dancing in futuristic stages. This was also the reason why I could tolerate DDR X and X2 for the PS2 despite their mediocre song lists.
Thanks for everything Encisso. I don't blame you for what happened today.

I wake up to this horrible news. Obviously nothing I can do but vent. But seriously, screw you Razor; you can rant and moan about "muh passion" all you want when Encisso and Curling clearly said NOT FOR PUBLIC USE yet you go and do that anyways. Because of you, you single handed screwed the community out of an amazing thing that was going on.
I hope you're happy with what you did since we're most likely never getting something like this again
Seriously folks, how hard is it to just "READ THE RULES!" in this case

Pretty much my take on the whole situation. Nobody said "don't edit" or anything like that, but it's such common sense not to install shit like this on commerical use Stepmania cabinets. I disagree with them saying "the project was stolen" but the bottom line is even if you don't personally care, others do and your indifference might just fuck things over for everybody.
Use Simply Love or something if you want your cabinet to run in credit mode. Christ.

I mean I think it’s pretty clear that them saying it’s “stolen” is a language barrier issue. It was sold without permission and that’s probably the best word they can think of for the situation. We are a world wide community and Curilang, Encisso, and Razorblade all aren’t from natively English speaking countries.
This really isn’t any different than any other homebrew project, because that’s exactly what Stepmania is. And like 99% of those have disclaimers not to use them to make money or that if you paid for it to demand your money back, it’s super common to see in the console soft modding communities for example where all that stuff is offered for free and is homebrew software. I totally get why they’re upset. They made this stuff and aren’t making money off of it. Why should arcade operators be making money on it? Things might have been different if the machine was in home or event mode, like I doubt Encisso would care if someone had friends over to play on a cab in event mode or something like that, reading the other thread the specific gripe was that the machine was in credit mode.

Agreed with this. Like, it's fine to have on a cabinet that isn't specifically making money, but when it is, that's when Konami starts sharpening their knives.

I'm trying to comprehend what everyone's been saying here. This whole "rule breaking" thing ultimately boils down to insensitivity towards the creators, right?

Using something that uses Konami's assets in a commercial setting is the problem to me.

I don't think enough of you guys are acknowledging how immature Enciso's response is:
This is not how you take down a project professionally. This is an attack that inherently puts razorblade on the defensive, and is obviously going to look worse when he (justifiably) is angry and trying to explain himself while people continue to attack him.
Additionally if, as he said, the cab is offline, there is no current public usage of the theme out in the wild. Therefore, I don't think legal action could be taken against Enciso, if that's the concern.
I don't know, this is a really obnoxious reaction to a mistake that someone made. Why this wasn't a PM, or a longer statement wasn't drafted before taking the project offline, is beyond me. Just my two cents.

We are not good at saying goodbye, but before doing so, we want to thank you for all the support you have provided since the beginning of the project.
On the other side of the world, the project was stolen from us (more information, contact Razorblade, surely he will have much more details than us)
Take care.

A few rules Encisso had in the GitHub, since the projects start up, were:
For home use only
Credit the creators if you intend to stream with the project on fb, youtube or twitch (for non monetary purposes)
DO NOT USE IN PUBLIC
Tweeking of the project to your personal preferences was ok if you asked
I know there were a few more rules that included the project being removed if certain rules where broken, which the public setting rule was broken. (Paid for or not doesnt really matter i assume at that point.)
Timing of the situation shouldn't matter either as these rules were put in place and clearly stated since its first release almost a year ago.
A short statement is enough to get the point across as the act itself is professional enough even if people were blindsided by the sudden removal.
Naming razorblade as someone with information on the matter isn't an attack so much as an invite to ask questions regarding the matter. However, a user ended up providing evidence early on depicting his project in an arcade along with razorblade confirming the details led to the scrutiny towards razorblade.
Aside from pointing this out, this may be a heavy handed decision on Encisso's part but such decisions, no matter the severity, do need to be acted on even if it hurts the community. It lets everyone know that the rules weren't just for show.
We are in a bit of a deep negative space at the moment with the whole situation. I suggest while we debate the situation, we end it with something you enjoyed about the project. It may not be here anymore but we should share our favorites things about it from the characters you used to the stages you prefer.
