My name is Patrick and I love rhythm games (mainly DDR, Jubeat, and Reflec Beat), Monster Hunter, and Jojo's Bizarre Adventure
I enjoy rhythm games a lot; planning to invest a lot of time and money into them
Another thing I've wanted to get into is making simfiles for stepmania as I want to make a lot of simfiles for songs that I feel deserve them especially since it reminded me of the time where I used stepmania in 2005 and all I had were mainly Ayumi Hamasaki simfiles and other jpop but I really doubt those simfiles even exist anymore
But if anyone can show me the way of making simfiles I'd appreciate it

There's plenty of us who could help you out with simfiles! Tell us what you need, and we'll try what we can.

Do you guys know any programs that can help introduce on how to make a simfile and how to figure out the bpm of the songs?
Or if there's any tutorials around simfile creation?
I'm not really good at cutting songs to the format of DDR based length and I have zero knowledge of simfiles in general other than to put them into folders but I have my own homemade ddr setup that id like to test out my own original simfiles or other peoples simfiles when i gather the knowledge of creating them if that makes sense.

"Dance like there's no tomorrow!" |
Hi everyone! You can call me Punk Rose, or PRB! I've been a huge fan of DDR ever since my grandmother gave me DDR Hottest Party for Christmas in 2007, and if it weren't for her, I wouldn't be a fan of DDR today! I recently got back into it after watching some of Dr. D and iamchris4life's videos and since I have only a Wii U, I bought back my old DDR games to relive the great memories, even if I can only play it on the controller unlike years ago. My favorite composer for the series would have to be U1. Listening to his recent music shows how much he evolved as a music artist and listening to them made me so happy and dance like I haven't in years.
I have been on the site before when DDR II was months away from its official release, but it was during my weaboo-ish phase (middle school and early high school), so I thought I start fresh with this account. XD Other than DDR, I also enjoy Black Butler, Star Wars, Overwatch, and other franchises that would take a lot of typing to do.

Welcome, Punk Rose Blitz! On behalf of this community, I hope you have a wonderful time here!
These questions would be best asked in another forum, such as in Simfile Discussion (this thread might be of use to you), but here are the programs I use to assist me in producing simfiles:
Audacity: For cutting music. An easy way to cut would be to take any repeating parts (such as Chorus 1/Chorus 2) and remove anything in between, if that makes sense...
Virtual DJ: A program I use to help me find a BPM value, and works well (in my opinion) for songs with a constant BPM and a solid beat.
DDREAM Studio 6: Currently, I often turn to this to create the .SM skeleton for the basis of the simfile; this program is unique as it requires you to place beats for every beat of the song. For songs with a constant BPM, you simply have to place the first beat, then use the "Autofill beats" option and play with the BPM value until the beats line up perfectly. Then, save as an SM, then use Wordpad to set the single BPM value manually (as this program has a habit of setting minutely altering BPM values).
GIMP: If you are interested in creating graphics for simfiles, this program is a great place to start! Keep in mind the correct proportions (for DDR: 256:80 for banners, 4:3 (or 16:9) for backgrounds, and 1:1 for jackets), and look for tutorials, such as the one by Telperion, to help you get started.
I apologize if my explanations are convoluted, but I wish you the best of luck in producing simfiles!

Sup'. My name's Andrés. I live in Carabobo, Venezuela.
I'm a fan of all BEMANI games, but specially DDR. I also play PIU, but that's another story.
I decided to join this site because I wanted to share my love for these games.
...I guess that's it. I'm sure that I'll have a good time here!

Greetings. I am an idiot a long time ago but I have returned and now I sincerely hope that we can try to be friends again.
James Lee McKigney is my name and I have decided to be a part of your team, using pads and trying my best to fight on and fit into clothes while dieting. I will never give up! I will succeed! No more slacking off! It's time I put an end to my obesity.
Anyways... aside from all that, I have played Stepmania a long time ago. now that Version 5.0 is out, I can enjoy high definition stuff while dancing through my battles.
I will abide by the rules and be fair and to also treat everybody as if they were me.

Hey, I'm Traevor.
I'm from the Central Valley in California, which sucks majorly... anyway, I've been a longtime fan of bemani - probably coming up on 15 years now. Took a little break, but as of lately (due to Round One being semi-close to me), I've been interested in getting back into the whole scene again.
Um, what else is there to say about myself... I'm a singer, songwriter, guitarist, gamer. Outside of rhythm games, I love Sonic, Pokemon and retrogaming in general (especially 80s arcade games).
I had another account here a while back, but I can't remember any of my logins to save my life... so I decided to start fresh... Hopefully I will run into some of y'all around the Bay Area arcade scene every now and then whenever I'm in the city.
Cheers!

Hey, thanks. Yeah it feels good to get back into everything and actually experience new Bemani games for the first time in so many years. The newest DDR mix I played before DDR A was SuperNOVA.

Gee... on Zenius... probably 2007 or 2008. During my high school years.
I've somewhat experienced newer DDR mixes through Stepmania (and the CS versions that came out in the US post-SN/SN2), but it's not the same as playing the actual arcade games.

For sure! Yeah, back then... I didn't even know what rhythm games were.
It was interesting to know this site even existed, when a friend introduced me to it.

Hey guys! How are you all doing? I'm a music teacher out of the Kansas area. I mainly play a lot of Jazz gigs around the area as well as compose.
I was big into the DDR series around 2005-2008. Mostly someone who played at home or played a lot of Stepmania but occasionally would linger around the arcades in Colorado when I was a teenager. I by no means was a great player but I could handle 9 to 10 footers with at least a A or a AA.
I'm getting back into the DDR and Stepmania games for a few reasons...The first being that it used to be one of my favorite games to play and the second being that I'm trying to get myself back into shape again. (Basically my lack of running has caught up with me and I would like to get some stamina back...and since I used to love DDR it just seems like a great way to not only get myself back into shape but to re-visit something I love.
That being said, I'm not much of a competitive person so you won't see me necessarily trying to pass insane songs. Just someone who likes to come in and talk about the games, songs and charts.
