I would allow players to come play if I owned one. When did I say I didn't?
Just saying, I've heard some stories of people who hoard arcade machines in their homes and they don't allow anyone to play on them for god knows what reason other than for the owner's own amusement. I feel bad for the wasted opportunity to gather and start a community yet it's their choice since they own the machines and can do whatever they please with it.Post #22 · Posted at 2015-04-08 01:35:10am 9.1 years ago

"I'm honestly pissed off." |
When I went to the arcade, I was friendly with the people working there, so if the pads were slippery, I'd go to the counter and ask for the windex and a rag so I could clean the pads. It's a bit different for me though, since I was in my mid 20s, not mid teens, and it was a small arcade with an entry fee, so the people working there knew I came in often and stuff.

-windex usually gets you more grip if it's too slippery. Even just bringing a towel and cleaning dirt/ leftover baby powder or whatever can help a lot.
-if someone owns their own machine realistically I don't see a problem if they just hoard it to themselves (and plenty do) since well, it kinda is their own machine/property. It's probably more a result of them just being extreme recluses though to people and not having many friends.
-literally none of the image macro gif craps are ever funny or productive in forums

Understandable. This is why when I own a machine, I will actually be able to fix stuff on hand. (I have no experience in modding/repairing a pad but after seeing Dr.D's pad fixing guide, it shouldn't be that hard to manage) Also, I will only allow people in if they notify me in advance.

oITG (Open In The Groove Simply Love SM5 theme)
Either it's not oITG, or it's not the SM5 version of Simply Love.I'd strangle kittens if it would reduce the friction on my pads, there is almost no such thing as too slippery. ( That is specific to 4 panel single. It's the metal center panel that is too sticky, the plexi arrows are fine. On 4 panel double or 5 panel single or double you typically do not stand on the metal in the same way. )
Depending on the circumstance, windex can make pads either more sticky or more slippery:
If they are slippery because of dust / baby powder / some other particulate, windex will increase the traction by removing that.
If they are sticky because of sweat / whatever random kids spill on the pads at arcades, windex can decrease the traction by clean that off.
If the pads are sticky because of sweat / other sticky substances, using baby powder can make the situation worse. It can get caked onto the pads making them even more sticky. It's basically the worst thing that can happen to you. #FirstWorldProblems

I've been thinking about spaying my center panel down with WD40. You should do it first and report back.

Honestly for any song that's above a 12 on the ITG scale you're actually better off with slippery pads, you won't pass an 18 by spraying the pads with Windex.

I've played 15s perfectly fine without the pads being slippery.
I seriously don't understand why some people think it's a prerequisite all the sudden in this game to get better.

Difficulty is relative. Because 15's are inside your comfort zone, pad friction doesn't play as much of a role. I'm sure there are some people who can do 17's with sticky pads, but that's not the point. When you are pushing your limits (regardless of where your limits are) you do NOT want sticky pads.I seriously don't understand why some people think it's a prerequisite all the sudden in this game to get better.

Back in '06 a place near me got a new-at-the-time SuperNOVA dedi, and boy was it slippery - for years... I think last time I went was a couple of years ago I went, and there was still some slidage. XD Maybe I should use the Windex trick just in case if I go there again.
lmao when I was playing pump two kids got on and just started randomly jumping offbeat on the top and bottom pads, and then started fucking stomping them
(not trying to hihack the thread, I swear)
Being used to replying to people doing stupid things with varying responses, depending on wha they were doing, I knew that if someone jumped up, I'd say something, though not necessarily WHAT.
Once I was playing ITG2 at my local arcade, this jagoff who looks like he walked off the set of Jersey Shore gets on the pad next to me, and moving around like an idiot. Instantaneously, in a mono-tone, serious voice, "If you know what's good for you, get the fuck off the game pads" comes out of my mouth. (heh, I was almost thrown off by it to be honest...) The guy slowly backs off the pad, walks away. Later, he walks by the machine, trying to not make eye contact. Hard to believe sorta, but if you go to the place I go to a lot, you see enough stupid shit to believe it.

Considering what little kids and edgy early-teens get away with doing to arcade machines nowadays, I'd say you shouldn't really sweat it if someone sees you.
