The hosts also technically have an advantage in that they get to see everyone else's votes in advance before they make theirs if they want, but unless there is evidence of them using it to their advantage, I don't think that's that big of a deal either (at least it hasn't been a problem since private voting started).
It's no big deal because it's just two people that at worst are cheating with their votes (very unlikely to make a big difference in the end, unless they actively conspire with a bunch of their superfriends or something) but considering how little the hosts trust participants when it comes to clean voting (suspicions of people voting for weaker files on purpose, no feedback because it might sway votes, all the collusion accusations) it's kind of funny that they didn't notice their own conflict of interest there.I think hosts should never take part in these contests, period. Imagine the unlikely scenario in which I start my own contest and win it (or at least score high in it) cleanly. Wow congratulations to me on winning my own contest, I'm handing myself the medal. It would be kind of lame.

I'll go on the record and state that when Feraligatr and I hosted the Contest in 2017 with Pandemonium X as a caretaker role, none of us knew any of each other's weeks in advance. (And in my case I pretty much came up with the heavy lifting of the ideas on the bus home that Monday evening.) I can't state for the other 3 contests since, but give how Pandy was in there and the contest is ultimately his baby I'd trust him to keep up appearances. Additionally I don't know why you'd want to cheat as contest runner anyway, this one isn't the one with any "prize" so to speak unlike Battle Royale.
