There are 3 different places within 10 miles of my house that used to have a combined 5 DDR machines. I went to go play the other week and literally all 5 machines were gone. Has anyone else witnessed a disappearance of machines where they live?

We lost a DDR X near me and two others are broken. I wouldn't be surprised if they disappeared either.

When I lived in Huntington, West Virginia years ago, they were 2 DDR Extreme machines nearby. One was at a Tilt location at a nearby mall and one was in Ashland, KY at this family fun center called Gattiland. Both machines left during 2011 and 2005 respectively. Since then, the closest DDR Extreme machine nearby has been in Charleston, WV, which is over an hour away.

Nearly seven years ago Tampa had the biggest number of DDR EXTREME machines within a 20 mile radius (11, possibly 12).
Now? I think there's only one that is in poor condition and maybe a Megamix, a SuperNOVA, SuperNOVA2, and X2.
It's not just you .....

You guys at least saw one. I never see ANY DDR machines whatsoever anywhere I go. The last time I saw one was in like...2010.
Is the USA slowly starting to push out DDR machines until they don't even exist in the USA or something...? Or are DDR machines slowly becoming rare, like an Um Jammer Lammy arcade machine back in 1999?...

Yes, although I think it's been happening for a while. My hometown area at one point had 3 Extremes, a SuperNOVA, an ITG, a Stepmania converted cabinet, an EM2, a DS Fusion and a MAX2. It now has an EM2 (9 machines down to 1). Disappointing to say the least.

of course they're disappearing; most red or black cabs are around 10 years old. eventually they'll become broken beyond fixing, or the hardware will become outdated, and konami is (currently) not producing new cabinets for the USA. the newest cabinets are 5 years old, and those are X2 cabs that are substantially cheaper than the original ones, even if they're better than the X cabs.

Back where I use to live, there was like five with in a 30 mile radius. At a time there was none but now a few more have started to pop up in the area.

That thing actually exists? I was starting to think it was just a myth. I can't find any information on it.Anywho, right now the two DDR machines I used to play on are gone. The closest DDR machine I know of is still pretty close by, but it's in a movie theater. Also, there used to be a DDR Extreme machine at my university which was pretty nice. I had a high score on it, since no one knew how to play on course mode. Too bad they got rid of it the year I actually became a student.

There used to be 7 machines that I could easily get to in 15 minutes as recently as 2009. 2 Supernova upgrade cabs at a mall, 4 Extremes, and one Max 2. Out of all of those machines, only one Extreme machine managed to stay while the other ones either disappeared when the arcades closed or got replaced by either Guitar Hero and/or shitty redemption games. We got a DDR X in 2013 that worked okay for the first couple of weeks and then became complete garbage.
I mean, I'm grateful to even have a public machine to play on (the Extreme I mentioned), but I'd kill for something other than Extreme and a barely playable X US cab.

Unfortunately, the game probably isn't too much of a money maker for most arcades. It would be a loss for them to co tinue maintaining the machine if it doesn't get a lot of use or make a lot of money.
Since DDR isn't released in the US besides SN or X/X2, you don't have many options besides getting someone to upgrade the Extreme (if you can even upgrade one to another mix).
Just buy a nice metal home pad. Its an investment, but worth it. Just hook it up to SM or oITG and put the DDR packs in. It's what I had to do for years.

Only thing that's close to me is an EXTREME. There's a "meh" X2 machine that's about 40/45 minutes away from me. There was a SuperNova 2 as well, but that's gone. All we usually get in the UK are shitty "Dancing Stage" releases.

Honestly, it's better than nothing. We should appreciate what we have.

so, in the bowling center/pizzeria of my city, long time ago there were a lot of arcade games, including a broken dancing stage (i think euromix?) that never worked.
two years ago i went back to it and they removed all the arcade games, in place of them put redemption games.
obviously, the ds cabinet disappared.
and it's pretty sad that the closest arcade near me is in rome. and i never go here. ; w ;
(then going on the map section, i discover that in italy there is a DDR X cabinet in rome. ; w ;)

I do appreciate what I have (Trust me, X2 is a blessing in my head) but I still can’t help but be saddened that it’s likely I will never get the chance to play 2014 unless my dad actually lets his fifteen-year-old son get a four hour train ride down to Astro City for a lock-in… which has since been forced to downgrade to X3 anyway.

It's not too surprising. Either most of the cabs have either gone to scrap or they have gone to private owners as all the arcades in the past 10-odd years or so have shut down and placed all their machines on auction.
