"My paw is incompurrable!"
Are we talking about both the arcade and console version of DDR X?

Well, you guys made your point about it. Also, the way I see it, DDR X is somewhat outclassed by both DDR X2 and DDR SN2. For X2, only the Xmixes, How to Play and the roulette version of Paranoia Max (Dirty Mix) (X-Special) were removed, something only a few people would play; for SN2, it would be the songs that were removed by the time of DDR X such as all Reo Nagumo songs and most BeForU songs. I find it pretty cool that the licenses from SN and SN2 are still around, though. What I really like are the Hottest Party songs. It's good to see the choreography appear as well.

As for console, the licenses weren't all that good, both for US and JP. I like the Dancemania revivals despite that I like the original ones are better (except for Hero). Other than that, not really that good. Konami Originals, not a lot of them were great. A Geisha's Dream and Party Lights are one of the few KOs I like. The rest are meh. Bemani Crossovers are very good.

No, I think it's underhated.
Damn I hate those (betson) X cabs.

hey, i have an idea: lets take a fun game and just completely ruin it

lets take the pads and recess them and use junk, one-piece components everywhere
lets take our current, fully functional software and throw it out the window for laggy, offsync x86 based software
don't forget about ruining the game too: shock arrows, annoying announcers, you name it!

I fail to see how Shock Arrows ruined the game, considering how they were only used on a handful of Challenge charts and you could've very well chose to not play said handful of charts, but alrighty then.

Now that I think about it more, I'd say that DDR X is really overhated. It wasn't superb, but I think a lot of people overreact to the gameplay changes. Sloppy shock arrow charts, ridiculously annoying announcers, and more SMiLE.dk songs surely make the game worse. But it's not like they completely ruin the entire game. Well at least for me they don't.

Also I forgot to mention that I loved the concept of the Xmixes. I don't really know why. They just seem so cool to me.

Think about it this way...Even their most loyal, dedicated fanbase (sites like this) gave overwhelmingly negative reviews on X, so it's surely a failed product. Sure, it's playable, but @X fans: why are your standards so low?

"oh, but we better not insult anything made by Konami or we'll be rated down into oblivion! Surprised "

X isn't as bad as people say it is. Honestly, it did get pretty... well... not great reviews, but this thread isn't about the cab, it's about the game itself.

I love how you whinge on in another thread about people rating you down for "voicing your opinion", but then you go ahead and post condescending shit like this and neglect to connect the dots.

Because every other machine around me is either an Extreme or Supernova, usually not in good condition. In fact, the X cabinet by close by me is better than most cabinets I've played on.

If we're just judging the cabinets we have access to then everything but Extreme sucks to me. Tongue But compared to a Japanese X cabinet, such a game would be dozens of times lovelier. Not as great as X2, but aaaanyway.

At least X tested the waters for shock arrows. The shock charts in later games improved, I think. There was a lot of effort in X, just not all successful, maybe.

Also, X AC was the last game where you could select your character without e-Amuse. And had a couple dance routines that were mysteriously given up on in later games (would it have killed them to port over Dance Evolution routines). And... also the start of some really bad new dance moves for new songs.

The weirdest part is that the AC team were probably aware of how distracting it was, because they made the concious decision to disable the announcer completely during the ES and OMES.

It seems like the problem isn't the frequency with which they trigger, but the fact that the announcer lines just go on for so damn long, that there was no way to cut them down? I wonder why they didn't just nix the new samples completely, and re-use the announcer from SuperNOVA 2, if they were aware of how distracting it was?

I think so too.

i do not understand why persons talk that this version is better than USA. DDR X USA has recent songs of X AC and X JP (CS) has only 8 new songs plus whites old songs, which is better play them in EXTREME. The new songs are too slow. I think that X USA is better because is 2 versions in one, (SN2 & X japanesse)

My guess is they didn't do enough play testing on higher difficulties. The symptom isn't as prominent on less dense charts. Although if they had the brains to disable it during ES and OMES, then they must have had some awareness of the issue.

Aside from that, there are some things you can thank DDR X for introducing to the DDR arcade franchise:
-full combo splashes
-combo auras
-screen filter

Song-wise it was definitely not stellar in contrast to something like X2, but it definitely has a good handful of originals and crossovers. Some that come to mind for me are on the bounce, Saber Wing (and its remix), Rin To Shite, and Zero. I recall one reason people found it a bit of a let down was because the arcade version had no new boss songs from the US CS.

Interface-wise I am not crazy about it. I wasn't fond of it at first, but I eventually began to tolerate it (mostly due to it being the most recent and complete DDR style SM theme). I'll take the abstract design of the other interfaces (like SN2) any day though.

the first time I saw X for myself it felt like a step back in just about every single direction possible for me

the only thing I liked from it was on the bounce

""Captain uwu""
i think that music-wise DDR X is among the best DDR mixes that exist and the stepcharts are pretty solid most of the time. Shock arrows suck but as previously mentioned not a lot of charts have them.

I have never played DDR X on arcade but I have seen many videos and picture showing the theme and while it is "meh", I COULD get along with it I guess.

for me, DDR X > SN1, SN2, X2

The lag killed DDR X for me, i don't play often but the one cab i played on (And supposedly was updated to reduce lag) just has lag all over the place. If i can get an A on the PS2 version of the game (and the same song obviously) i'll get either a C or a D because of the screen lag. I don't know if its an LCD panel but they should have went ITG style with a widescreen flat panel style CRT monitor instead.

This, definitely. The only DDR X dedicab I played on Hawaii was the true embodiment of Betson's shittiness. It was a fairly new machine and after I put my quarters in I realized the right arrow on the 1P side was cracked. The other pad was pretty unresponsive too and I couldn't get above a C on any song. Luckily another nearby arcade had the Japanese version of DDR X on an upgraded Extreme.

As for the content of the game, I thought a lot of the new songs were interesting but the theme in general felt like a huge stepback from SuperNOVA2. I thought the US PS2 version was very strong though. It had a lot of great songs from SuperNOVA2 and almost all of the new content from DDR X. It even came out well before the Japanese version.
Check out my simfiles:
Pulsemix 1st Style (Currently being remastered)
Pulsemix 2nd Style (Complete, 25 songs)
Pulsemix 3rd Style (Ongoing, 19 songs)

"BABY DON'T CARE"
Not bothered about the UI, Shock Arrows or even the announcer.

The songlist though

I played X a few times and I only remember liking On The Bounce, Saber Wing and Rin to Shite
