OMG a new topic on the Technology forum!?
So anyway I'll be buying a new laptop in about 2 weeks, but have no idea what to get. My budget will be about 1,000$. Any suggestions? ideas? warnings?...
NOTE no way I'm getting a mac, and looking at getting Windows 7 with it.

I would wait for reviews about Windows 7 when its officially released so you dont waste all your money on a crappy product

I am running Windows 7 RC 7100. Don't worry, it's a hell of a lot better than vista.
Basically it's XP with a vista theme and mac speed and no screw ups.

lenovo makes good laptops since they fused with IBM.
I have a separate partition for ubuntu on my lenovo y550. Works pretty well.

It's a good product. I've been running the final version since September, and it's great.
As for a good budget laptop, I'm not much help there, sorry.

I've used Dell laptops and they've been mostly good. Try to avoid the ones which use shared memory graphics because they're very unsuitable for StepMania and other music games (ie, saps your performance for the sake of it being a cheaper price)
ps i'm triplebooting Ubuntu, Windows 2000 and XP on mine and they all run dandy.
