The only thing that really stands out to me, is in the Japanese song titles, a little notation of it's transliteration would be nice, so if you know what a song's title begins with, it's easier for us to find. (Like "ka" next to the symbol for "ka," so people can find "KAKUMEI" for example.)
I find it a bit interesting that the North American release of A does not translate song titles, which they always used to do with the games from SuperNova to X2 (as well as the console titles). Personally, I prefer to just have the the titles untranslated so we don't end up with songs that turn out wildly different, like "HOW TO COOK DELICIOUS RICE AND THE EFFECTS OF EATING RICE."However, I understand that keeping the titles in Japanese may make them harder for American players to...yknow...read them. I think a compromise would be to romanize the titles in the song selection wheel but keep the original text for the banners; that's probably less work than creating new banners with the English titles anyway.

-An actual hide background (for real even the darkest filter still barely does the job)
-Announcer removal option and crowd cheering for that matter; I get they're there to attract casuals but you should at least give the option to serious players to turn it off so they can like you know actually hear the damn song.

I came back after an hour's worth of play, and during short breaks, took a look at the PIU machines next to the DDR machine. Apparently PIU has a feature where you can change the background to some kind of plain flying-through-space-and-stars background so that you can focus solely on the steps. That'd definitely make concentrating easier.

It's an option known as BGA OFF, and I certainly agree with you there. Consistently dark backgrounds make brightly colored arrows more noticeable to the eye, which is why screen filters are a godsend.Post #44 · Posted at 2017-07-28 12:39:15pm 6.7 years ago

Something else I noticed as I was playing today - the high score list feels like wasted space. Not that I disrespect better players, but I don't see the point of keeping the names of those who MFC'd a song at a certain level. It's not like you can beat them - more like, you can tie them. Maybe dedicating extra slots to your rivals may make for better space usage.

When selecting options, have a lone arrow right next to the options that serves as an example for what the arrows will look like ingame with the options you're selecting. the arrow would move at whichever display bpm the song has and show the noteskin, change direction when choosing mirror or left/right, change speed depending on the modifier chosen, etc. Newcomers can be less afraid of what they're doing this way when they discover options

Update the vivid and solo noteskins so arrows that are one 24th or 32nd apart don't look the exact same. Anyone who's played bag without using note knows what I mean. That way I can actually tell that the arrows are supposed to be hit separately and not like a jump.

Jury's still out on vivid, but it can't really be done due to Solo only having 3 colours to work with; if they made 32nds R-V-B-V-R, then that would make every 8th note R, when 8ths should alternate R-B-R-B.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the solo/rainbow note skin at least partially designed with colorblind people in mind? If that's the case, I can understand why its color palette is limited in comparison to Note.
Anyway, stuff I'd like to see:
- Less Oni charts, more actually new songs. I'm going to leave my opinions on the new Oni charts out of this (other than to say most of them are garbage), but I feel like all of the songs that are getting unlockable Oni charts should have all just had them in the first place.
- An option to turn the background off completely like in DDR home versions, StepMania, and In The Groove. I usually play with backgrounds on anyway, but it's nice to have the option.
- The character cut-ins that came up every 20 or so combos from Supernova 2 and X (i can't remember if X2 had them, I only played it once). I just thought these were kind of cool to look at.
- Character select on the machine. Having to do it on the eAmuse site isn't a huge deal, but it is a little annoying. I'd prefer to just be able to select them on the machine like in Supernova and Supernova 2. I believe X had that option too? I can't remember, it's been a while since I played X but I remember X2 NOT having it
- The return of regular sudden/hidden. Sudden+ is annoying at best and I don't understand why the fuck they even had to change it.
APPEND: This one is a bit more pipe-dreamy than the others, but I think it'd be cool to have all of the DDR characters from older DDR games remastered/revived, including ones exclusive to the PC version that came out ages ago.

What irks me about solo is that they've never been able to handle triplets properly; with note you can clearly see the triplet notes in orange-green-green, but solo treats them as a pseudo-triplet and colors them orange-purple-blue for some reason. Just make that last blue note purple, because it throws me off thinking the note should come later than it actually does.
(Also I don't know of anyone who still uses vivid; there's probably a reason it's no longer the default setting.)

Yeah honestly solo would work just fine if they made all 24ths and 32nds and whatever else green. Therefore 24ths and 32nds would look normal. Then more people would stop using note and use solo instead
