BEMANI-wise, considering "recent" arcade releases.
Jubeat wasn't touch screen.
Reflec was touch screen.
DEA wasn't touch screen.
SDVX wasn't touch screen.
FutureTomtom wasn't touch screen. (Well but it had stupid kinect controls)
Beatstream was touch screen. and plays like a circular reflec so I don't even know why they bothered to make it.
So yea, I think you're exaggerating that a bit.
Even if it's touch screen, at least the start button is already confirmed to be physical!! lol
Note that both beatstream and reflec doesn't have any physical buttons, so a physical start button can mean a lot here, but then again don't get your hopes up too high.
I personally prefer buttons over touch screen because I like the feel of hitting buttons to the rhythm, touchscreen just doesn't give the same touch, but one good thing about touch screen is that it's much easier for the arcade to maintain. I've always hated how I'd put a credit into a jubeat or sdvx machine only to find out a button is stuck/the analog device is acting wonky respectively.

Judging by the unlock event requires everyone to play BS at least 10 times to unlock all songs from one game type (I love playing Gitadora, IIDX and Pop'n so I have to play 30 times just to unlock all these songs), it's a fair deduction that Konami is desperate to get people to play BS whether they want it or not.

Too bad Round1 USA won't carry BeatStream...unless there is demand for it. I can't imagine the licensing costs would be too much different from SDVX.

If that's the legit cab. My guess is it works like Neon FM but you can twist the drums.
