Damn, I need to get back to Chicago...I'd definitely visit Under The Big Top. I only ever played at People's Choice in Waukegan, GameWorks, and Regal Cinemas in Round Lake.
Kon11 years agoKon
The game not being offered won't stop some places from getting it (with the possible exception of 2013, but you know bootleggers) but it will be a really rare find to play in America. It does not help that both Raw Thrills and Betson are 100% ignoring flat out requests/answers about any release and any contact with Konami sends you right into their hands. I hope the community around here will be more alive then it is but I am 99% sure it will never happen.
ddrencoremyst11 years agoddrencoremyst
Not to mention X3 and now it's sequel DDR 2013 is not offered in the states. It is kinda the reason why I am trying to run a drive on the forums to encourage players to start finding and visiting new locations, give feedback on existing locations, and trying to futilely rebuild a community. I really doubt I will succeed, but I never will if I do not try. Lol.

Also Under the Big Top is on my, gotta visit when in close range list. So hopefully I can stop there sometime, someday.
Kon11 years agoKon
I know that feel. If they gave a shit I would go there and play still but I don't. Under The Big Top said that if enough players showed interest that they would upgrade to DDR X3, but so far barely any regular players come in to play so I doubt we will ever upgrade now. And I really don't blame them, that kit is expensive and none of the regular players are coming in to play even though both machines are definitely the best in the state.
ddrencoremyst11 years agoddrencoremyst
True, however this was the one X2 in this metropolitan area. I feel kinda bad for the Chicago players. The next nearest one to me is about the same amount of distance (in the opposite direction). I never really expect top pro quality from a GW or any other major brand, however there are small things (like how these particular pads feel when stepping on them) that just doesn't feel right to me.
Kon11 years agoKon
It has been that way for a while. They were told how to properly fix the machine but they have taken it with a grain of salt. If you wanted to play seriously you are better off going somewhere else to play.
ddrencoremyst11 years agoddrencoremyst
By the ways as some of you know the Gameworks staff modified the step swtiches in the dance platform of the DDR X2. In short they removed the brackets and step switches typically found in the machine and replaced them with this:

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-0SAvVx8Wh0o/UXSLnERnNlI/AAAAAAAAAK8/-EdT_AYNPLY/s711/various+013.JPG
I only saw this because a panel cover broke and was replaced when I was there. But seriously. the panel cover sits on top of those little red buttons, and that triggers the sensors. This explains why this particular machine has a loud "clap" when you play, and it feels weird to step on. I personally do not like it because I think I can tell the difference from when the moment my foot touches the panel and the point it actually presses down on the swtiches. Causing a bad sense of timing. But that is my opinion.

Ahh, my first SuperNOVA... That's a shame.
Kon11 years agoKon
Bye SuperNOVA :(
ddrencoremyst11 years agoddrencoremyst
Recently visited this location, all of the DDR games were costing 7 credits which at the base rate of a game card comes to $1.75. This obviously is cheaper if you spend $20 or more dollars. At least it is not like their Time Crisis 4 which charges $2.75 for 3 lives. DJ Max Technika is the best choice to play here.
TimeSpaceMage11 years agoTimeSpaceMage
Yeah when that SuperNOVA first showed up, I got to play HDV. Was not at all expecting the second part to go that fast even knowing how it went, haha.
Daiz11 years agoDaiz
When I played on the SuperNOVA, the pads didn't seem that bad. I was able to AA all of my song and attempt ES.

The X2 ;_; so so sad to see.

Technika 3?! Lucky....

Why does GameWorks always allow their DDR machines to go to shit? Same thing happen with the one in Cincinnati.
MUTE12 years agoMUTE
As of Septermber 2011: X2 is horrible now. P1 pad is barely playable; don't expect to FC a damn thing. Don't even bother with the P2 side; left arrow has a completely stuck sensor, so you will fail absolutely everything.
Kon12 years agoKon
If you wanted it turned up you should have told them you came from out of state to play that game specifically and they would have definitely turned it up.

Blame the shitty house music they play after 9 and the poor placement of games as well. That machine is actually on a pretty good volume but you would never know just by the way they run their business.
zeioIIDX12 years agozeioIIDX
@Kon
Ah, that's kinda what it felt like! Didn't help that the volume was either low or just drowned out from all the noise of a GameWorks! Definitely a nice machine though :)
Kon12 years agoKon
@ZeioIIDX There is lag on the X2 machine... But its easy to adjust to. You need to hit slightly early (almost like your playing DDR EXTREME) to get Marvelous and Perfects.

However don't ever expect to have an amazing Marvelous attack... ever.
zeioIIDX12 years agozeioIIDX
Played here tonight...couldn't quite get used to the X2 pads. Is there lag? DJ Max Technika 2 is amazing though (o_0)
Kon12 years agoKon
The machine is in just not good shape to be played on. The machine has been turned off for over a month now while Gameworks waits patiently for new sensors.
yindesu12 years agoyindesu
why is this X2 broken again? All the sensors?
MUTE13 years agoMUTE
X2 is surprisingly good; new pad construction is leaps and bounds ahead of the old Betson DDRX pads. Don't expect greatness from the other two DDR cabs though. I strongly advise going during weekdays/off-peak hours if you want to minimize the annoyance of ambient noise.
Kon13 years agoKon
You will be carded and there for be kicked out of Gameworks promptly at 9:00pm. It is OFFICIALLY a bar form 9 until close.
BPTX13 years agoBPTX
I don't believe they are ok with that. We all got carded the night we were there last week. There is a curfew there that if your your under 21 you do have to be out of there by 9pm.
TimeSpaceMage13 years agoTimeSpaceMage
I would expect not, but you'll have to get with Kon on that one.
Cruisn4Evur13 years agoCruisn4Evur
"Becomes a bar after 9:00 p.m. every day. At that time you must have a valid ID and be over the age of 21 to get in and stay after 9:00."
But what if you are under 21 and are under the supervision of someone over 21? Are they okay with that?
Cruisn4Evur13 years agoCruisn4Evur
THANK YOU KON!!!
NOW THERE'S A DDR X2 CLOSE TO ME!!!
(but it's 79 miles away...)
(and it's near Chicago)
