Game will be compatible with PlayStation TV, for confirmation. Big Grin
Figured most of you would like to play with an actual controller on a screen for this one.

Any info on the DLC song and whether it will be tied to a Jp PSN account or downloaded in game?
I don't really want to reset my Vita every time I want to play some DLC taiko songs

I believe DLC songs are tied with the Japanese PSN account you use to buy them, just like for Taiko no Tatsujin Portable DX. This also applies to all the registered pre-order codes for single songs that are given by the many vendors!

Trust me, it has been a system seller to me, and for good reasons!

With so many console debuts, 1st-time songs and hi-difficulty songs from Day One, this is the best Taiko console game since the third game for the series on Nintendo Wii.

Does the standalone game without any DLC stand up as a better purchase than the 3DS games? I'm kind of put off from all 3 by the focus they put on the story modes.

For my money's worth, it is. As usual, any judgement about the games' songlist is strictly personal, but I find V Version's base songlist really solid, and counting 88 songs (unlockables included) against the two 3DS games' 50-or-so songs per title. I can still recommend those for different reasons, too:

-) Taiko 3DS 1 has the easiest and fastest Story mode to follow and complete, so that racking up unlockables isn't that much of an hassle. The songlist includes many tracks which made their debut for the current arcade generation's very first firmware board, and has a lot of Game Music tracks that can't be played elsewhere (for now, that is). The difficulty curve is the lowest of the current portable titles is lower, but you'll get some nasty curve balls towards the end, trust me.
-) Taiko 3DS 2's Story mode is longer, but it's not -that- complicated to clear by either adjusting the difficulty settings or simply leveling up your party members; a solid team with an outfit that highly raises life and attacks can handle the endgame with no sweat. If you like Vocaloid songs, there are a lot of these in the game, as well as a (personally) somewhat weaker Game Music selection and Namco Original songs that considerably ramp up the difficulty ratio from 3DS 1 overall. Whether you decide to pick this one, the DLC packs and single songs are nicely rounding up the difficulty scale, despite the fact that no -truly- never-heard-before songs appear.
-) At this point of time, Taiko V Version offers the best base material for experienced Taiko players. Among the three games it's the hardest of the bunch, but introduces to the console scene many arcade exclusives and 1st-time playable songs, most of which is readily playable from the start. For the Story mode it might require a little bit of Japanese knowledge for weapon/armor/other equips descriptions if you want to exploit the enemies' elemental weaknesses, but again it's very intuitive most of the times. If you get interested into the paid DLCs, the two launch packs offer other hard songs for testing your hands on, and 3 free DLC tracks are offered until the end of August. Plus, the base game has my all-time favorite Namco Original song, so it's an easy win for me XD

Hope this wall of text has helped your decision! If you head to the Taiko Time blog, there will be the full tracklists for the three games in order to have a clearer idea of each of the games' songs.

Anyone give a rough translation of bits and bobs?
Like in the RPG mode there's three boxes when you first launch (and in a menu) no idea what they are.....difficulty?

And also the clear data option (so I can avoid it)
I presume it's the end right option>end right option again. (The fact that there two boxes after selecting made me think is this really the clear data option)

Clear data on Taiko console games is usually the end-right>end right option like you said; my copy of the game has to arrive yet, so I can't confirm this bit by now.

Anyway, the 'three boxes' you mentioned at the beginning of the Story mode are the mode's difficulty settings, which -in order of difficulty from lower to higher- are Chukara (中辛), Karakuchi (辛口) and Gekikara (激辛). Chukara makes you play all songs un Futsuu (=Medium) difficulty, Karakuchi is for the Muzukashii (=Hard) setting and Karakuchi is for Oni mode charts. It's possible to change the difficulty of the Story mode whenever you want, although I can't tell you which option lets you choose the difficulty setting; again, I haven't received my copy of the game yet...

I really like the V Version because of the VOCALOID songs and that RPG story mode and the fact that it has so much in-game purchases! So far this version is the best for the handheld!

Not sure if imrhis post should really belong here.
But is there a way to download the time limited free songs without tying a vita to a jp psn account?
I tried via a jp account via the ps3. All I could find was a taiko pv (thou I could have been looking at the wrong place)

I planned to download (or "purchase") the free songs so I have them if I ever get a 2nd vita or get it to work with a ps tv (without having to factory reset my current vita

For DLC, I don't think you're allowed to download it to your PS3 to load on to your Vita.

You must do it on the Vita unfortunately.

Just downloaded the demo of this earlier, even though there's only 2 songs (not including the extra 2 in Donder Quest mode) it looks super fun, so I guess I'll be saving up for this game. If anything, it'll break up the wait for Superbeat Xonic.
