This is pretty much a controversial and subjective topic. Not sure if this has been made before, but I didn't see a thread like this one.
So, this is pretty much based on what you've been and the achievements the player has gotten.
List your Top 5 DanceDanceRevolution players throughout history.

First, I will start:
JSB: He was the best player in his era. He is highly recognized because of the Single Digit Greats' AAA he got playing The Legend of Max during a tournament against Reflex, who was also recognized as a good player, but sadly that video shows the opposite. Also, JSB played it using no bar. During that time (2002-2003), there were barely excellent players in North America, and JSB was one of the few to demonstrate a high level. Video (if interested): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mtKU2wwNOjo

Brosoni: I don't know a lot of this guy, but his amazing scores have given me an idea of what he is capable of doing on the dance pad. Pluto Relinquish Oni AAA (with a couple of greats), Fascination Eternal Love Mix Oni PFC, among other incredible scores. This guy is not only one of the best in Asia, but he can be in the Top 5 worldwide. In my opinion, the best player in contemporary DDR.

BlueMystic: Man, when this guy used to play DDR, he was sick. Definitely a DDR veteran. It's no easy task to get a AAA in The Legend of Max and Maxx Unlimited... using the stealth mod, which means, arrows are not visible. He was also a clutch performer during DDR tournaments, he was able to AAA stuff there also. Not only do I recognize him as a great player, all the dancing community find his skills amazing.

DJ Sterf: We could say he is still an active player, although he hasn't played lately (or hasn't uploaded videos of his gameplay). He hasn't the best footspeed of all players, but I could call this man "DDR Fundaments". He knows how to crossover and get timing precisely. Crossover, the enemy of many raw players. I don't know how many AAAs he has gotten, correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it's over 1000, and he was the first one to get that number (confirmed by Aaron).

JBoy: This may really be a controversial pick lol. To be honest, I don't find him in the Top 5 but I just wanted to get him in there (Should have put Yasu there haha). He is known by old school DDR players for his style of gameplay. It's a bit funny the way he stomps on the arrows and the shorts he used. This guy is a classic. Some achievements he has gotten: PSMO "legit" AAA haha, Boss Rush IV pass (Kevbo is the one that holds the best record).

A 6th one:
Aaron: Totally forgot what he has done. He is the most loyal player to DanceDanceRevolution out there. He currently has 1408 AAAs Expert/Challenge (Single/Double), but if you include AAAs from Light/Standard it is over 3000. Second to get 1000 AAs Expert/Challenge. He is still an active player in Japan, and has been a fan of the series since the release of the first DDR game (1998). His contribution to the game has been immense, which is show in this book. Currently, he is looking forward to getting new AAAs in KONAMI's newest DDR games.

Other honorable mentions:
Yasu, RIN-GO!, Kevbo/MegamanX, FunsizeTwix, CartoonHero, ManiacStepper, Dr. D, Adam Cohen (admstyles), iamchris4life (home version), Kaze, Kalamari, etc (I can't remember other names at the moment).

They aren't in order at all, it's difficult, but you can give them an order! Also, a description of each one is not necessarily, and your Top 5 helps us know players we haven't heard of or we forgot to take on consideration.

I think it's more a "the top 5 ddr player in your heart" but i found what i read interesting and probably read the other top 5 that will pop up.

Oh btw, i'm almost 100% sure that Mr Sterf got 1000AAA expert/challenge (and maybe more). He was the first to do this apparently.
But i'm a bit confused, Aaron has so many AAA's maybe he hitted 1000 before.

Best DDR player?

Aaron. He's played the game since it's very beginning and still gets the most current AAA's in the most current AC version.

Would be interesting to put a timeline to some of the players mentioned here seeing that some of them are either completely inactive within the DDR community or are still going strong with the game.

JSB's Legend of Max was definitely not a sightread. I was at that tournament. That place erupted when he got that score.

Actually I mentioned Aaron in the honorable list while writing this, but I think I erased it accidentally.

On the AAA count, DJ Sterf had 1000 before I did (I remember he made a thread about it on AIJ when he got it). I currently have 1408 AAAs Expert/Challenge (Single/Double), but if you include AAAs from Light/Standard it is over 3000.

For best players throughout history I think it would be wrong not to at least mention Yasu. In an era when AAAs were extremely rare on any song period, let alone Expert/Heavy, he AAAd Max 300, and it took almost 2 years for some people to believe it, even with photos and videos. He got so well known for AAAing Max 300 (and other harder songs of the time) he was flown to the London MCM Expo twice (once with me) as a special guest.

There were many great players around that time. Just from the Japanese side (this isn't a top 5 so much as a list:

Take - Yasu's brother, tons 'o' AAAs in an era when that was extremely rare, and would do it on video. Could AAA bag and Least 100 Seconds (on Extreme) almost on command.
K.K - regular 1x player/no bar, first Japanese (?) with AAAs on all Max(s) by DDR Extreme (300/Maxx/LoM)
Fujitake - Playing since the beginning, equally as good on double as single with one of the highest AAA counts in Japan overall (all difficulties, single/double). (AAAd Xepher Oni the first day Supernova 1 came out),
Pre-san/PRECISE - Also playing since the very beginning, has almost as many AAAs as I do, one year younger than I)
Akudaikan (oldest known player with Expert-level AAAs (45 years old now))

GPF Lith from Seattle is another notable mention. He did two things; he was one of the first from the early days to AAA a Maniac song in the USA (Young Forever on 4th mix, so "AA" I guess) and helped changed the mindset about the bar when he beat Tigger in a SoCal tournament in an era when "All bar use = bad. Period." was a common mindset.

Also, this.

Actually, I think there was a thread on this on AiJ years ago. I should dig up what people said then. Some of this matches up with your list, though North American players have always been fuzzy in terms of skill in the eyes of the Japanese. JSB is a whole can of worms on that front. He was known as a great player, but he wasn't revered as highly as he was in the USA, mostly because for things like the video of his Legend of Max run, there were about 10~12 players that had also AAAd Legend of Max or had low single digit greats. None of those ever stood out that much, though.

On JBoy, there is one point you made I have to comment on: "PSMO AAA during the Legendary Road course, he is the one that has gotten the farthest in the course Bosh Rush IV (SuperNOVA)"... I'm not going to start any drama, but there was a huge sh*tstorm over that since there was no photo or video proof of an AAA on that, and the video shows him from the side, screen unvisible. He was still godly at the game, though. Also, farthest in Boss Rush IV? Are you sure on that? I'm pretty sure that has been completed since then, but for the time that might be a fair assumption, especially in the West.

JBoy is legendary in Japan as Mr. "COME ON!" from his Boss Rush video, though. We love him <3

Actually, I wasn't sure. I tried looking in the internet but I couldn't find information. Do you know a player who has passed it?

JBoy may have been the first to pass Boss Rush IV, (at least in America). He used a 'cheat' to get through the HDVO crossovers.

Also, here's Bluemystic's Legend Road record:

I'm glad that you posted the pic Aaron (and also i first i was like "Did i posted it or not ? O_o"). I remember talking about this to someone at least a year ago. Tried 15min to found the pics then gaved up ^^'

Wait, someone FC'd FAXXChallenge immediately followed by HDVChallenge both on 1x vivid?!? I can believe FAXXChallenge easily (If Rin-go! can get an SDG on 1.5x note no bar, I'm sure someone could get an FC on 1x vivid with the bar) but HDVChallenge seems absolutely insane given the ending.

This would be the first instance of any FC I've ever known of on HDVChallenge without either Shuffle or Mirror on.

lol @ people trying to agree on this matter.

Yasu is pretty legendary for the time at which he accomplished his stuff. Everyone else was just playing catch-up back then, no one was even close except for JSB in America and a lesser-known canadian player called "Bemaniac". Right now it's brosoni, no further discussion needed.

Remember people, there's much more to DDR than speed and PFC'ing 18 footers Roll Eyes
Some players play for MA (sometimes MFCs), some play for hard PFCs, you can't say who the single 'best player' is.

Yes, it's pretty hard to coincide on who is the best single player, and since times have changed, it's a relative matter. I do agree with CoreyBlaze, I think Brosoni is the best player right now, and I can say he is the best player in DDR history, because even if we start discussing as how Yasu, for example, was the best during his era, his level was lower than Brosoni's level, but that is also because the charts during those times weren't as hard as they are now (that is talking about the "skill").

Old skool DDR era I would say:

Yasu, DJ Sterf, Maniac Stepper (I couldn't think any since I'm seriously into this scene in 2008, but I've seen their videos on YouTube)

Current best:
Dr. D, 5 1 3, BROSONI, and RIN-GO!

Dr. D for being so obsessed with AAA (I remember, MAXX Unlimited and Saber Wing Remix, lol)
BROSONI for having those insane AAA on Oni
and RIN-GO! for AAA-ing insane songs without bar (also, A on VD Oni)
