PS3/PSP users can activate DLC on up to five systems. Starting with content purchased on Nov. 18 onward, DLC can only be activated on up to two systems.

This is good for some, andbad for others. I have only 1 PS3 and no PSPs, so I'm fine. But others may become frustrated. I also can't believe it took Sony this long to notice this. I hope Anonymous doesn't bitch about this.

I was just thinking the other day "why is it that game piracy lockdowns nowadays aren't as frequent and/or bad as they were back in the SNES/Genesis era?" and then I read this. Interesting.

I'm on my second PS3 at this point in the system's 5 year life-span. If misfortune were to struck me more often, this limitation would ultimately END my support of PSN related purchases. Unless you can tell Sony that your console broke and you want to move your license on to your new console.

If I remember, they're going to open a support forum/website that lets you switch/deactivate licenses ala iTunes.

This isn't good for anyone. The sale of PSN games is going to drop through the floor, and Sony aren't going to be able compete with the kind of prices that most of the games are availible for on PC digital download services.

Even the 360 has a license transfer function for people who need a new 360, so I can't imagine Sony not doing this.

I'm sure they will. Although, they never followed up on their Facebook attack that was supposed to happen today.

That attack was supposed to happen today?
I think this is stupid, the government is just letting Anonymous do what they want, yet they communicate with them, and do NOTHING. This government needs to step in and take care of this.

From what i've heard you can contact Sony and you tell them your PS3's ID # found within the system information and they can deactivate it if it breaks. I even heard you can now deactivate an account online but you would have to go through a lot of security questions before deactivating it through that process.
If that's the case, i have 2 PS3's in our house, 1 that works and one that works but doesn't read discs, if i ever get my own new PS3 i'll deactivate the older one and put my info on the new one. Before formatting the HDD and putting that data into my new one of course :3

From what I gather from the link posted in the OP, I am in favor of this. When I heard about having five active consoles, I thought that was asking for people to share. Now with it being down to two, I would see a bit of a higher sales for developers and their games being sold on PSN. I mean come on. First off, who the hell would have five PS3's in their house? Seriously. I think two is a good number as I have NEVER seen anyone with more than two usable PS3's. I know people will bitch and complain, but really, they're just bitching and complaining that they can't steal games from the PS Store anymore.

You weren't even really stealing. You had to be on the account of the person who actually bought it, and had to stay on their account in order to use the game.

Still considered stealing though. Is Friend A gives Friend B access to their PSN account on their PS3, then Friend B can play Friend A's games and vice versa rather than them buying the game for themselves. Still considered stealing. Not quite like owning a physical copy of a game and letting your friend borrow it or even giving it to them.

If they had adopted how the Xbox 360 handles this, this wouldn't have happened in the first place:
1. Only the one activated console can use the purchases as long as the user profile is on the console, otherwise all purchases linked to that account are disabled on the console.
2. Purchases can be used on other consoles as long as the profile is transferred onto a USB stick and you sign on to that profile on said console. Profiles can only be moved, not copied.
I like the fact you can deactivate PS3 consoles over the Internet now and not having to do it physically on the console.
The only drawback is that if I wanted to play my purchases on another person's console, I will have to remember to deactivate on each visit.

Technically you are letting them borrow it. It's not actually theirs. They can't use it on their account or anything for "Trophies" or "Leaderboards", etc unlike if you were actually borrowing a physical copy.
You could also be giving it to them if you were just giving them your entire PSN account (for whatever reason, not enough time to game, switching to Xbox, etc.)
In my eyes, it's not stealing but I'm not going to keep arguing about this.

And al2k4 comes in with what I had in mind for a long time. I wish Sony would implant the idea in the near future.

That's not strictly true, if you game-share, they can still acquire trophies and get a place on leaderboards on their own account.
Edit: Sony don't get my sympathies though, they blocked exporters such as play-asia.com, yesasia.com to export certain games to Europe for whatever reason but not in North America which makes no sense to me. They expect me to fly over to a country that can obtain it to buy the games I like? Nah, I think I will obtain it some other way. With the PS3 and PSP being region-free this is extremely backwards.

You can have your XBL profile on multiple systems using the account recovery option. XBL is worse than the 5 system PS3 stuff, actually. I've lost track of the number of 360's I've recovered my account on, gone to account info, downloads, and redownloaded all my stuff. Want UMK3 on XBL, but can't get it because it was removed? I have it, I can still get it. If you want it, I can recover my account on your system and download it (granted there is MKAK now, but for a while this was the only way to get it). Dream On and DKM pack for GH3? I have those too, and can download them whenever on whoever's system I want. All they have to do is play them on my gamertag, and an unlimited number of systems can have my DLC.
