Sup guys. While this is about Funland closing, I wanted to make a new topic.
Funland was more than "just an arcade" to me.

It would be really cool to get your opinions of arcades and how they affected, or still affect you.
Dur to nature of this site, I'm sure many of us came from arcades as DDR players.

My article has been published here =)

Let's see, for me:

Back in 2006, SuperNOVA announced at ATEI, this was when I really started to go to Funland/Hollywood Bowl on a near daily basis when DS SuperNOVA was in beta-phase. The launch of SuperNOVA on April that same year fueled the launch of this site to originally host SuperNOVA footage.

And now it's 2011 I don't go to arcades as much as I did in 2006, but I still go on a weekly basis to the Southend seafront for some SuperNOVA2 action. And occasionally to London to visit some of the arcades there. I am not too upset about Funland's demise as most of the DS/DDR machines there were falling into disrepair... It is a shame though, as it was the place where everyone would meet up.

I remember when I was about 7 and the mall (Back when malls were THE place to go) about 15 mins from where I lived. They had an arcade there that me and my brother went to when my mom and dad went shopping I use to go here almost every weekend and more then once a week during the summer. When I turned about 15, the mall had to close down some things due to money issues and the arcade was the first to go. The spot it use to be is still there, but it's just a wooden wall. The wall only for a piece of my childhood to be forgotten as time goes on. Sad

That mall is a ghost town and has been for the last 8 years.

"choons"
They change my life because it's like gaming heaven. Play just about anything in the arcade.

"ur a bare"
90s kid here (born in the 80s)

as you could imagine, arcades are very meaningful to me Big Grin

some of my favorites: The Simpsons, Street Fighter II, Mortal Kombat 1-3, World Heroes 2, TMNT (and its variants)

I, too, have seen arcades shut down

even had one in my small hometown but it had a pretty decent selection until the whole mall shut down in the mid-90s or so Cry

then in the early 2000s I was in the Raleigh (NC) area and would play DDR Extreme and whichever other machines they had at some arcade out on Capital Blvd, and those were truly awesome times

I wish I was still in shape haha

one machine I'd love to see before I die is a Bubble Bobble machine (believe it or not I have yet to play one) Cool

"I do better under pressure."
My favorite game was Skee Ball. I played starting from when I was about 4, over 18 years ago. My best score out of 900 was 680, my sister's is 710 and made that score it when she was 11. This was played on the original.
