"This file cannot be copied." Why?

I was wondering if anyone knew why some game save data on the Wii can't be copied onto an SD card.

Yeah that happened to me when I tried to give a friend my Brawl save data. Sucks that you cant, I don't know how its hurting Nintendo or why they wouldnt want you to be able to.

I only encountered that when I was fooling around with editing my save for Hottest Party, and creating invalid save files.

The save file might contain stuff that they want to make sure each person unlocks for themselves, like the friend tokens you get in Metroid Prime 3. I don't have Brawl, and I haven't tried to copy my MP 3 save, so I'm not sure that's it.

so people dont modify or alter games, like you would with a gameshark or action replay. Or modding in general, as in terms of soft-modding, the mod is ran, and installed off a save file.

Oh, ok. I guess I can understand that, but at the same time, I wish every file could be copied, mainly because of trying to save up space in the Wii's internal memory, thanks to it not being that big.

I think you can get round it using Wii homebrew, like by using this app for instance. Never tried it myself though because I currently have no reason to move my saves.

I think you can't copy it because of the friend code thingy, if you were to give a friend your data for Brawl then you'd both be using the same friend code.
