I’m currently running a Radeon hd 7700 Series. I want the arrows to scroll like marbles on a glass sheet. What video card do you recommend?

99% of the time the lag/ghosting isnt the videocard but the monitor, like you can run stepmania smooth on a shitty videocard but if you got a cheapo 60hz monitor expect a bad experience

I just upgraded to a 144 hd monitor so that’s not the problem. I installed a Radeon rx 550 and got excessive screen-tearing.

Turn vsync on via StepMania's Graphics setting to remove screen tearing.

As in WAIT FOR VSYNC enabled? That makes the screen-tearing worse.

I was running everything perfectly fine on a GTX970 in 4k resolutions.
As Jousway said you really can run Stepmania on just about anything. Just try tweaking some settings.

Have you tried changing the sound drivers to WaveOut? That usually helps. Here's a reddit post that tells you how to change it.

Alright I changed the sound driver to WaveOut and turned on Vsync. That seemed to smooth things out a lot. The last mystery I need to solve is why was I getting less frames with the new video card? I originally ran a Radeon HD 7770 and upgraded to a Radeon RX 550. The new card was causing massive screen-tearing so I switched back to the HD7770 and was getting more frames. WTF?

Open Save/Preferences.ini with notepad, look for VideoRenderers. If the value is "opengl,d3d", change it to "d3d,opengl"
You should switch to SM5.1-Beta 1 because of optimization to gameplay performance.

Switching to a new version would mean resyncing all 1000 songs. I had to do that when I moved from 5.0 beta 2a to 5.0.12 and I am in NO mood to resync everything.

Couldn't you just change the global offset instead of going through the trouble of individually syncing 1,000 songs?

You'd think I'd be able to. But that's precisely what didn't happen. Even after correcting my global offset, the songs were still off sync.Post #13 · Posted at 2018-04-08 01:45:08pm 6 years ago

Why would you resync all the songs in newer version? Resyncing simfiles based on global offset is a bad idea. You should resync your global offset based on your simfiles. Syncs aren't affected in newer build.

Because not every song was synced correctly even with the correct global offset. Many of them had to be resynced.Post #15 · Posted at 2018-04-09 03:52:19pm 6 years ago

"Blank for now." |
Might be the wrong question to ask, but are your sound files .mp3? In my experience, using that type of file instead of .ogg tends to mess with the sync quite a bit.

CBR mp3s and CBR/VBR oggs are fine. VBR mp3s are known to have issues in syncing.

Everything is ogg. Not a single song is an mp3.
