"No."

Heres a banner of the game... hopefully its real.

From the Cached Site, i noticed that it said

Play your way! "Casual" mode via keyboard. "Arcade" mode caters for two-handed groove-synced play.
In addition, each song has an adjustable 3-4 levels of difficulty.

So we are gonna be probably getting all the difficulty settings from Mobile, PLUS Extra difficulty from AC.
Its just speculation.. not confirming..

I think what they mean is that Casual will have the Mobile controls/difficulty, and Arcade will be, well, based off of the AC controls/difficulty, so they're splitting them into two modes rather than it being all in one screen like it is on the mobile version. I'm perfectly fine with that, but hopefully I won't have to play the Casual (formerly known as Mobile) charts to unlock the AC charts. >>

The arcade version runs on very lightweight hardware (Type X Zero; 1.6 GHz Intel Atom, base spec of 1 GB of RAM, a Nvidia mobile GPU), so that seems fair.

UPDATE:

GC for Steam is still slated for a Summer release, and will have a launch price of $20, with roughly the same launch songlist as what was leaked, more or less. DLC will be priced between $5-$10 with updates throughout the year. May or may not launch with online multiplayer, but will have a score attack mode!

Thanks for the update! This is something I could look forward to. I still play the iOS version (not to mention, spent a lot of money on the packs), but I wouldn't mind playing an AC quality one that is seemingly also playable offline. Smile

Here's the controls in English!

And I was right on the nose with Casual mode being the new name for the mobile charts! Whether or not it's entirely separate from Arcade mode is still up for debate; I'm still hoping you don't need to play Casual charts to unlock AC charts. >>

And here's the final launch songlist:

ADRENA / C-Show
Analysis Division / Masayoshi Minoshima
Black MInD / COSIO (ZUNTATA)
Bright Lights / aran
DX Choseinou Full Metal Shojo / IOSYS TRAX (uno with.Chiyoko)
Five to Seven / Sampling Masters AYA
Future Coaster / Sakuzyo
Got more raves? / E.G.G.
Groove Revolver / Xeami
Horizons / M-Project
Lethal Dose / sky_delta
LINK LINK FEVER!!! / LINKA (CV: Moe Toyota)
MAD FREAKS / DJ Myosuke
MERLIN / REDALiCE
MIRACLE PARTY / DJ Genki
Music Plot Type Three / COSIO (ZUNTATA)
No Way Out / ARM (IOSYS)
OMAKENO Stroke / t+pazolite
Period of Revolution / COSIO (ZUNTATA)
Play merrily NEO / Shohei Tsuchiya (ZUNTATA) feat. Aimee B
Scarlet Lance / MASAKI (ZUNTATA)
Seizya no Kodo / Xeami

If there's any additions/removals from the leaked songlist, let me know!

Last but not least, the system requirements:

OS: Windows7/8.1/10 (64bit)
Processor: 2.0 GHz+
Memory: 2 GB RAM
DirectX: Version 11
Storage: 5 GB available space
Additional Notes: Limited Offline Play (Steam login required every 7 days) {why?}

"Pancakes!"
It's probably just an anti-piracy thing.

But using Steam offline anyway is rough and full of issues.

Don't get me wrong. I'm definitely gonna get this game and whatever DLC comes out on day one, but the only worry I have about the "DRM" is if the game's service ever ends; will it mean a week after the GC servers shut down, I'll never be able to play the game again? >>

Maybe unless they make an offline patch for it.

What exactly would be shut down if they just stopped supporting the game? It looks like it just uses Steam for everything online, including leaderboards.

Unless you are worried about Steam being gone.

I'm not worried about Steam being gone. I'm talking about the servers for the game itself.

The closest example I can give would be The Pinball Arcade; there's two ways to buy a season (though this is going to change once the Bally/Williams tables are removed in 10 days): Either buying the season passes through Steam, and therefore it will be tied to the account, or through FarSight Studios themselves, which will only activate those seasons purchased through there if you log into your TPA account (not Steam).

When FS announced all those tables were being removed, a lot of people were worried that this was going to be the end of TPA, where the servers would shut down; if it were the case, you'd only have access to the tables you bought through Steam and not via FarSight, meaning the purchases from the latter would be gone forever. Of course they've been making assurances that they'll keep the servers up as long as they can, but they didn't really answer what would happen to those seasons that they purchased directly from them.

The point I have here is that unless they make an offline patch later, like the post above mentioned, there's going to be this lingering worry that, should GC "end", the game, as well as all the DLC, will no longer be playable.

It's Groove Coaster for Steam. Everything online seems to be handled through Steam's systems.

I highly doubt they even have servers for this. Why do they even need them? Steam can handle everything for the online portion without servers needing to be run all the time. Plenty of games already do this. Even stuff like Stardew Valley, Beat Saber, or Armello use Steam servers for things like matchmaking, friend joining, or leaderboards. I don't think Groove Coaster for Steam has anything so complicated that they must have their own servers.

Your comparison is also not the same. Groove Coaster for Steam exists exclusively on Steam. They may remove DLC for licensing but Steam won't forcibly remove it from you, as I have never heard of it doing so outside of one instance per developer request (in which they also refunded everyone). Even TPA on Steam is going to let players who purchased seasons on Steam continue playing them.

If it needs to be connected to Steam every seven days at least, that sounds more like an anti-piracy measure through Steam. There is no mention of requiring a third-party account or third-party DRM otherwise.

The first DLC for this game has been revealed: Guess what pack it is?

Shocking, rite?

Uuuuuuuugh...

At least the DLC is cheap. Wish they sold it in packs though. >>

Btw, the GC Facebook also posted a new trailer showcasing the songs in the base game!

Nice, getting Touhou songs already. Though I'm also disappointed they don't seem to be in a pack atm and can only be bough separately.

Aaaaand its extra downloadable content is already more expensive than the mobile counterpart's song packs.

Joy.

My only concern is that, if we're getting only a year's worth of DLC, I don't want it to be 90% Touhou/Vocaloid/NicoNico packs like it is in the mobile versions; I'm someone who wants to see more original/commissioned songs. Maybe it can be a nice mix of Mobile transplants and AC-exclusive songs making their home debut.

If Taito/Degica wants to keep me engaged and pay the prices they're asking for these (currently) a la carte songs, they can't just assume all GC players only want those three licensed(?) "genres". >>
