Hey all!

So my local arcade has a DS EuroMix and I have played all ~20~ songs and it's getting quite boring. Also in my opinion I think that all the charts are highly out of sync and are pretty boring.

My plan was to ask the arcade if they could upgrade the machine to DDR Extreme, so there could be better songs and a change of atmosphere for the arcade. They said that they would but they don't have a clue on how to do that. I said that I have an idea on how to do it but it's not confirmed to be the proper way on how to upgrade it. I would try my way but it's not my machine and if it is the wrong way then they would end up with a broken machine and no-one to fix it. They said if I could come back with a confirmed way upon how to do this then they'll upgrade the machine following my every instruction.

I was doing some research on how to upgrade a EuroMix Cab and now come to think of it, is EuroMix even upgradeable? I know it's the European spin off of 3rd Mix, so it must use the same Konami Digital 573. Right?

At the moment I'm just in a bit of a pickle and need help or at least a link of some sort to a website that tells me all about what I need to know.

Thanks!

So from when I had a cab, I learnt EM1 and Extreme can run on the same board but Em1 might have been early enough that it didnt come with the flash card thats used by Extreme. More to the point whilst it is doable you'll need to source a few things that arent spoken about on this site to do it unless you buy a legitimate kit / 573 with it pre-installed from elsewhere.

Your honest best option would be to ask around how to convert it to run stepmania in some way shape or form (its been so long since i last did it im not even sure what methods there are for this anymore sadly) and do that instead rather than going through the hassle of finding out where to source a flash card if it doesnt have one, finding the required software to upgrade it, going through the risk of screwing the 573 up like i did once. Plus if you managed to just run stepmania through it you could just simulate extreme through it that way anyway!

Dancefreak is right. Euromix 1 boards are capable of being upgraded as they are System 573 digital. However, they aren't often provided with the flash card and if that isn't present then your installation options are very limited without getting hold of one I'm afraid.

Fair point, but say if I was to somehow acquire a flash card for the 573, would it have the appropriate slot for it on the board? I mean yes running StepMania would be much more of a simpler solution but the arcade would prefer to really keep it running on a PCB, and I don't want too mess around with the pads I case I screw them up because StepMania requires some modifying to them. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but it needs a J-Pack or something like that to run the lights and inputs for the JAMMA? And that's more money that we really don't want to have to spend.

Yeah all the boards have the slots from what i'm aware (because the 573's were used for a lot of different games) but the issue is the flash cards (at least from when i was keeping up) are kinda hard to source to the point where it would actually be easier just to buy a 573 of a newer mix that already has a card in it than to go and find the exact one that works. Also even then you would also have to find a copy of the game to run on the machine which as already mentioned, isn't something you'd be able to find around here as it violates the forums rules etc.

As for putting stepmania in, when i did it all i had to do was bridge two wires in each pad, other people have done it by bridging lights, and other people have done it by using a minimaid/other devices to make it even easier, but you're far more likely to do lasting damage to the machine messing around with the 573 and changing mixes when you don't know what you're doing than putting stepmania in providing you have a good guide to follow.
