Figured I'd make a thread about this since this has been a growing concern throughout the community right now. Does anybody know what the situation is that's happening? The Bemani fanpage being stripped of artist info, artists having their names removed from song jackets in recent artwork popping up, news of sexual harrassment going on during Benama. Whats going on?

According to AIJ(Aaron in japan): "Things are a total mess right now. A few months ago there was a conflict over the artists wanting control over their own works while Konami wants total control since the content was made for Konami. Internal strife and conflict as the company divided into even more subdivisions, the CEO is rapidly losing his mind (anyone that has dealt with Kagemasa in recent times says he's different, and not in a good way), and the usual fun. It feels like the exec are using the company lawyers against their own staff right now."

Me and him were discussing things and it's all coming from him, he's close to all this over there and he has a lot of sources that he gets info from. He cannot disclose some things but he's the best source of info for this stuff.

Whatever is happening, hope things get resolved. This could be catastrophic for Bemani's future.

The fuck happened to the CEO? Did he get crazy or something?
ポスト #8 · 2017-10-21 12:25:16amにポスト 6.5年前
The current CEO always had issues because he knows nothing about video games, he only knows how to run a business and he only see's Konami as a business and could care less about the fans nor the people in his company as long as they're making him money. And with all this shit going on, I'm not surprised he's losing his mind. It's also the reason the company is branching off into divisions. It's also the major reason why Kojima had so many problems with Konami and his inevitable departure from them. It's a bad cluster of problems that have been repeating themselves and it's finally starting to catch up to them. I fear for Bemani's future as well with the state of things. Also for everyone who doesn't know about the Kojima issues and the state of things at the time, check out this video from Super Bunnyhop: this video also mentions Bemani as well.

So basically it's the CEO's fault for ruining Konami. I hope I'm wrong.

Shouldn't anyone who "knows how to run a business" know that customers' and employees' happiness are #1? Sounds like he doesn't know how to run a business at all; "get as much money as possible" might be the most short-sighted of all short-sighted goals.ポスト #12 · 2017-10-21 01:05:22amにポスト 6.5年前

"BEMANI Sound Team" |
I guess bad working practices at Konami Japan are continuing and one can only assume the BEMANI team has had enough.
A Google search for "Konami working practices" brings up multiple articles from a few years ago.
I do hope this isn't the end for BEMANI...

That thing about the copyright dispute reminds me that the only reason L.E.D. and Sota could appear on kors k's latest album was if Konami still had the copyright to their songs (in other words, Konami has the rights to Cyber True Color and Venom, as opposed to S2TB like all the other songs). I imagine the two of them weren't pleased to have to do that.

In all honesty (and I get that this may be an unpopular opinion), I kinda hope we get this mass exodus in a similar fashion to Kojima Productions, where they leave Konami, and start their own independent studio where they make new games that are targeted for a worldwide market.
Of course, this might be a more complicated situation than that, but I truly believe everyone at Bemani, be it a composer/graphic designer/programmer/etc, deserve much better.

I feel like this is too large a scale for a Kojima Productions thing to happen. That would mean the entire staff of, what, 10 games? all leaving and starting their own thing. Plus, that would be pretty damaging to their other game series that use Bemani artists like PES.

Holy shit. Somehow the strained relations between the CEO and his staff like Kojima contributed to the cancellation of Silent Hills. Could other BEMANI fixtures such as pop'n music, jubeat, REFLEC BEAT, GITADORA (GuitarFreaks and DrumMania), and beatmaniaIIDX, along with the upcoming game DANCE RUSH/DANCE GENERATIONS/Shuffle Dancerz/STEPSTAR (if indeed it happens at all) be affected as well?

I think worse case scenario is that the members of the Bemani division all pack up and leave Konami, but if that were to happen I hope that Bemani can continue in some form, even if that means Bemani artists mass exodus to CROSSxBEATS which already seems to be a sort of Bemani retirement home.

I feel bad for HuMer and SYUNN who were just new recent additions to the in-house artist line up and this happened.

Maybe if Bemani really does fold, HuMer can go back to his old 8284 alias and do BMS stuff again.ポスト #20 · 2017-10-21 04:00:55amにポスト 6.5年前
"konami wanting control over artists' creation" not surprised, they probably don't want to remove a huge chunk of songs like they with DDR X, or lose something like Brain Power again.
Of course, this is probably 99% not the case, and is something much worse.
If BEMANI does die, at least we Stepmania, PIU, and other games we have on mobile.
