For those that don't know what I mean, allow me to explain: The CS release of DDR 5th Mix had a feature called the Data Bank, which has Edit Data steps for almost every song in the DDR franchise up to that point. It had steps for every style of play. Singles, Doubles, 6-Panel, and even Couples charts! In terms of difficulty, they range from a walk in the park (Ex.: a Couples chart for DROP OUT that has only 7 notes on each side during the entire song) to the downright insane. (Ex.: a Singles chart for DROP OUT that's just a single 16th trill that lasts the entire song.) There are a total of 3771 different Edits divided across 8 different sections called Blocks. Of the 3771 edits, 268 of them are part of a special 9th Block, called "ichion!!" The edits in the "ichion!!" block are considered the most special charts in the Data Bank. Just how special are they, you ask? Well, the Block notably contains 3 singles charts for DIVE (more deep & deeper style) made by NAOKI, Riyu Kosaka, & Noria themselves.

Now that I've explained what the 5th Mix Data Bank is, I figured I'd say that the reason why I'm transcribing the entire thing is because it seems like the Data Bank has slipped under the radar in recent years. Also, the online step editor that Konami put out around the time X AC was released is no longer active, and there's no way to play Edit Data in DDR as a result. However, because Stepmania is a thing that exists, I figured I'd transcribe the entire Data Bank so that everyone can play these charts in Stepmania. Now, I'm not the first person to transcribe all 3771 charts. But if I remember correctly, I will be the first person to do so all alone. Those are the reasons why I'm transcribing the 5th Mix Data Bank in its entirety.

To make my life easier, I have divided this massive undertaking the same way Konami did, dividing it into 8 simfile categories with the more important charts placed an an additional 9th category. I hope you enjoy!

PROGRESS REPORT: 6/3177 (~0.19% COMPLETE)

So far, I've done all Block 1 charts for .59 with the exception of those in the "ichion!!" block. (https://zenius-i-vanisher.com/v5.2/viewsimfile.php?simfileid=33094)

Plus, whatever the fuck this is:

Yes, that is a real chart in Block 1 of the Data Bank. I did not make any of that up.

Regarding those Steps from "DDR 5thMIX" (PS JAPAN) DATA BANK, someone in DDRUK had already done this completely and I had a chance to grab the pack because I want the Double Maniac of "STRICTLY BUSINESS" that I read in Japanese Explanations from the game disc. Unfortunately, the pack I downloaded which is stored on my External USB HD was corrupted.
"ichion!! BLOCK" is only a repetition category which are in highlighted selections from BLOCK1 to BLOCK 8

Here are the following songs with "DDR 5thMIX" (PS JAPAN) DATA BANK that I grabbed before:
STRICTLY BUSINESS: "MURAI MITSURU" (BLOCK 5) Double MANIAC
GET UP'N MOVE [BASS MIX Edit]:"TOMOKAZU-N" (BLOCK 4) Double MANIAC
DDR THE ULTIMATE VERSION (System Only Songs & official with some modification/variation)
DDR Missing Arcade/Home Version Songs & Official Steps
DDR Official Step Variations (No Duplication. All step variations in one song simfile)

Not trying to be rude here, but I am aware that someone from DDRUK had transcribed it all, but these days, it seems like his work is lost. So, I would like to transcribe them for a whole new generation. Also, I'm aware of what the ichion!! BLOCK is. The charts in the ichion!! BLOCK will only be uploaded in the ichion!! BLOCK category, and not their native block. Finally, I appreciate you providing STRICTLY BUSINESS and GET UP'N MOVE. However, I'm afraid I have to decline those files because the way I'm transcribing these charts involves deleting all of the official charts and only using the edits, and your files include the official charts as well. I hope you understand all of this.

So what you're saying is, you can't just delete the official charts off of these files?

Then that shouldn't be a reason for you to decline those files, since you can delete the official files just as easily.

thank you. I just wanna contribute some of the 5thMIX PS JAPAN DATA BANK STEPS I grabbed before.

For the starter of this thread you just simply get only those DATA BANK steps (with Label Filenames already) and convert them to any difficulty you want
DDR THE ULTIMATE VERSION (System Only Songs & official with some modification/variation)
DDR Missing Arcade/Home Version Songs & Official Steps
DDR Official Step Variations (No Duplication. All step variations in one song simfile)

I'm not sure what makes you think that's the best chart in the entire 5th Mix Data Bank, but I really hope it isn't. That chart was disappointing at best. On top of usual flow problems, it has random jacks and 16ths before a beat for no discernible reason. The 12ths don't actually match with anything in the song, and the 16th trills just seem to exist for nothing other than difficulty.

Just so you know, Taren from my old AIJ forums and a bunch of others already made stepmania files out of every last chart in the data bank years ago. Taren's domain (superwailing bonus) expired years ago but I still believe I have all the data backed up. Maybe it can save you some time?

There.

https://web.archive.org/web/20060616231034/http://superwailingbonus.com:80/projects.html

Near the bottom of the page. The diet version of just the sim files seems to work still. Not sure about the full version.

Dance Dance Revolution 5th Mix CS
Data Bank DWI Collection
---------------------------------

Main program code written by Taren
MCS Extraction assisted by aaroninjapan.com message board crew.
Late July - Early September 2004

To add these songs to your collection, extract to your main simulator folder. The DWI files will reference a communal MP3 folder using the #FILE: tag if you have the FULL version. If you have the DIET version, you will not have an MP3 folder.

***WARNING: There are 3771 simfiles in this collection. At the time of writing this, DWI only supports up to 2048 songs. You do the math.

The artist names on the DWI tags have been replaced with the song's edit index, and backgrounds and banners have not been included, in order to save space.

The edit index is a three-digit number assigned to each file from Data Bank. The first digit is the block number (1 to 8), and the next two are the count- which position the file is in in that block. For example, B4U has about 15 edits per block, so the first edit listed under Block 1 will be "101"; the second, "102"; the tenth, "110"; etc. You can use these indexes to look up data in the HTML compilation page.

The HTML page containing info on all data is organized by song name, then by edit index. You will see artist name, comment, and difficulty information. The artist name appears in red if the edit is their ichioshi (top pick).

Difficulty data is NOT standard to Data Bank; it was designed specially for this project. It is defined as follows:

V (Voltage) : Peak density of steps (dependent on BPM)
A (Amplitude): Overall density of steps (dependent on BPM)
C (Chaos) : Percentage of syncopated steps
J (Jump) : Number of 2/3/4-arrow steps
(yes, 3- and 4-arrow steps are possible on Solo edits using corner panels)

These are converted into "stars" and added up to give you an idea of how difficult the edit is. For reference:
6 stars = 8 feet or easy cata
7 stars = 9 feet or easy 10'
8 stars = 10 feet to bordering on impossible (by foot)
9 stars = hard-10 to impossible on feet, challenging on keyboard

Interesting facts- distribution of ratings is as follows:
9.0-9.9: 4
8.0-8.9: 45
7.0-7.9: 166
6.0-6.9: 614
5.0-5.9: 1291
4.0-4.9: 1095
3.0-3.9: 392
2.0-2.9: 96
1.0-1.9: 50
0.0-0.9: 18

If you want to put some of these edits on a memory card for use in a PS/PS2, look up the song and edit number in the HTML page, and look for the .MCS name in the right column. Search for that filename in the appropriate folder, and send to a Dexdrive/PSXMemTool. If you have one, you should know what to do from here.

Five-letter prefixes to songs are not consistent from block to block because the main program looked for a song's two-byte ID in the edit file instead.

Block 9, "ICHIOSHI" is not included because it is merely a collection of all the flashing-name edits from the other eight blocks.

About:
DDR 5th CS has an entry on the main menu called DATA BANK. It contains 3771 edits by fans for various songs from previous home versions. The home versions covered are:

1st - 2nd - 3rd
4th - 5th* - Club v1
Club v2 - Best Hits - Extra Mix

*Note: The only songs from 5th Mix in Data Bank are ones that have appeared in previous mixes, such as Dancing All Alone from 4th (as a trial song), and Dive, Broken my Heart, Remember You, and Afronova Primeval from Extra Mix. Dive deeper and more deep (Block 8) is the only exception to this rule being exclusive on 5th, however, the three edits for it are done by Naoki, Riyu, and Noria instead of fans. Songs like Matsuri Japan and Can't Stop Fallin' In Love Speed Mix debut on 5th, and will not appear in Data Bank. Songs that have not appeared on home versions, such as the Korean songs from 3rd Mix and Petit Love will not appear, either.

CS-premiere songs in Data Bank that debuted on DDR MAX (AC) are: Groove, Orion.78 (civilization Mix), Share My Love, and Midnite Blaze (all from 4th CS), and Groove 2001 (from Extra Mix).

Important Notes:
There are two serious typos in Data Bank: "20.Novermber(another version)" in Block 2, and "CLUB TOROPICANA" in Block 4.

That's where I got for the songs "STRICTLY BUSINESS" "MURAI MITSURU" (BLOCK 5) Double MANIAC & "GET UP'N MOVE [BASS MIX Edit]" "TOMOKAZU-N" (BLOCK 4) Double MANIAC

I just shared and the threadstarter is a lil rude with those annoying video embedded links.

Block 9, "ICHIOSHI" is not included because it is merely a collection of all the flashing-name edits from the other eight blocks.
That's what I'm talking about!
1000% complete!

Lastly, these "DDR 5thMIX" (PS JAPAN) DATA BANK are still can be played in a "Dance Dance Revolution X" and onwards with USB ports and EDIT DATA Enabled if you have "Dance Dance Revolution X" (PS2 JAPAN) with Arcade Link feature included. Just extract, save and transfer (PS1, PS2 and USB Flash Drive). This is easier than KONAMI online editor (which I never use because of my "DDR X" PS2-J).
DDR THE ULTIMATE VERSION (System Only Songs & official with some modification/variation)

Some of these edits are great, some are mediocre, but others (like FURUHATA'S THEME/NINZABURO) are pure shit.

I hate to revive an old thread, but based on the link given, the audio for these files have been lost to time.
They were the only way those .dwi files could sync up.

Syncing it to the current cuts available would be more ideal.

I’ve already converted some of them to be used with the official audio cuts currently available, as well as adjusted their sync, converted the charts to .sm for compatibility, adjusted their sample start times, and even reduced space by only needing to reference 1 file for each songs series of edits.

I plan on trying to get as much converted as I can, but only in chunks to prevent fatigue. It gets repetitive real quick.

There are some really great stepcharts made by the community in here, and want to preserve these charts so they can be voice viewable to some degree, or go through the pain of using a memory card and recording each stepchart, but who really has time for that.

All I know is, it’ll take quite some time to complete.
