Oooh, the gameplay of this one seems super-duper appealing! I'd love to play it someday; here's hoping Round 1 will pick it up~
Also, I kinda have my hopes up for an ALT song in here because BeatStream and Nostalgia both got brand-new songs with her in them...

I have this nagging feeling that we're going to see a NA release for this game real soon (maybe in the summer or autumn?), especially since it's the kind of game more casual people can get into, and it's one of the flashiest games I've ever seen.

Are they ever going to stop changing this game's name? STEPSTAR, SHUFFLE DANCERZ, DANCE GENERATIONS DANCE RUSH, DANCE RUSH STARDOM...anyway, I don't like the new name change. It seems weird to give the first game a sequel style subtitle. To be honest I think that STEPSTAR was the best title for the game anyway.

I don't expect that we'll see a NA release right away honestly. The hardware looks like it'd be infinitely more expensive than a DDR cab and we're already having trouble getting those out here. I think we'll only see it so soon if it turns out to be a huge hit.Post #145 · Posted at 2018-02-01 08:29:57pm 6.2 years ago

I think they're going for something similar to SDVX BOOTH, but I agree that it seems weird for any first game in a series to have a subtitle. As for a NA import, I feel like they might try and push it through places like R1, but even then it might only be if it's actually popular and/or if enough people in the US ask for it (and this is all assuming there aren't any licensing issues like with jubeat or pop'n). I think we should see how well it does after it releases before thinking about a western import since it could really go either way.

I can see there being a US release if it became popular enough but I can't see it coming to Europe at all (if it does it'll probably be called DANCERUSHSTAGE EUROMIX).
I think it would do well in the west if it was presented as a spin off of DDR because DDR is a recognisable arcade game and everyone knows what it is.

I don't think it would matter if it was presented as part of the DDR series or not since arcades haven't been popular in the west for about 15 to 20 years. DANCERUSH really would only appeal to the niche market of rhythm game fanatics like us and to a handful of younger children who happen to be passing through, idk, R1 (although I could see it having a bit more success than other BEMANI series in the west if they translated the directions and tossed in a few local licenses).

they don't give arcade releases their own title in europe anymoreI think it would do well in the west if it was presented as a spin off of DDR because DDR is a recognisable arcade game and everyone knows what it is.
ddr a released as ddr a, ddr x2 released as ddr x2, and ddr x released as ddr x
they only called ddr dancing stage in the europes is because dancemania didn't allow them to, and also there was german nation with the initals ddr and...

all these name changes scream FLOP already.
I will be surprised if this game lasts longer than DEA did

I'm at least sure it will get more songs than DE, because DE used actual choreographies, motion capture and 3D model editing, which made puttings new songs in the game harder than any other BEMANI series.

I don't really think the name changes alone would indicate it being even a likely flop. To be fair, DANCERUSH's idea is more original than DEA's and it's a lot easier to understand what the hell is going on since DEA basically required you to memorize the routines in advance (it's also a lot easier to add songs to DEA like DJ Tomoe said). Even though both DEA and DANCERUSH are two of only a handful of BEMANI titles that require you to stand up, I don't really think it's fair to compare them in terms of current or potential success based on that alone because that alone hasn't been a good indicator for a game's success (see: DDR vs IIDX or pop'n, and DEA/DM vs SDVX or Just Dance and Dance Central).I will be surprised if this game lasts longer than DEA did

Honestly, I see the built-in social media integration might help it gain an audience in the US. Especially considering how it makes it look kinda like Snapchat: the arcade game. Never underestimate the crowd of teenage girls who constantly take selfies during class to post on Snapchat. Popularity is all that matters. No one has any idea that this game went through like 20 name changes.

Maybe, but I feel like those teenage girls aren't actually interested in dancing in order to take selfies (although I guess I could see it taking off as one of those viral challenges but the stars would all have to align right for that to even kinda work). Either way, social media integration never hurts these days.(also congrats on your 573rd post lol)

Musical.ly would probably be a good partner for something like that if they needed a third-party partner.

All it takes is a few people that make it look good to post it around, and you potentially have some viral marketing.

The question then is who could they sponsor to make it worth it because I can't really think of anyone whose brand would fit well with DANCERUSH and who actually pulls in a decent enough number of views to make it effective (although to be fair I don't really watch much youtube anymore).

Someone like Matt Steffanina (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OghLUl9YKzk) who has 7 million subs, for example. And i'm sure there are trendy Japanese dancers that have loads of followers on social media.
