the rating didn't serve much purpose anymore, it was restricting categories but not much else. People were complaining about their rating dropping a lot and I think that helped contribute to the rating system being eliminated for good.

Before this thread becomes locked, there's something I wanted to say about the removal of the ratings system, which I postponed saying earlier.
I feel that it is somewhat unfortunate that this ultimately occurred, since it incentivized positive behavior (at least theoretically), and gave a quick indication of a user's popularity on this site. Understandably, though, issues with this system that have already been mentioned previously were pressing enough for this removal to be justified.

It was ultimately kinda shit. Basically e-peen waving. And any "incentivizing positive behaviour" was outweighed by the "WAH MY RATING WENT DOWN BY 0.7" dross we had to wade through every half an hour.
So yeah, it's gone. Shutting the stable door after the horse has ran off and ended up in the glue factory, but...yeah.
