New game just released for mobile, free to download. Very similar to SDVX but with a MUSECA look. Not too many songs but will update over time. One pack available for DLC, eight songs, $4.99US. Relatively high production value for a mobile game imo.

Cool! I tied it out, and it's a pretty fun game! I suggest a download for anyone into SDVX!

Outstanding production values and fun gameplay. I'm impressed with this. It's also quite a joy to play on the 12.9 inch iPad.

Just found this game on the AppStore for the first time today!

MAN!! For a mobile game, the production value and quality (both visually and musically) of Arcaea is absolutely incredible!!! I would probably even go as far as calling this a AAA mobile title. There are some microtransactions, but you can earn songs by simply playing the game in online mode; while in offline mode, you could play everything that you earned from online mode. I'd even say that the way they're doing the microtransactions is the next best thing to direct DLC, which I can totally accept. Once again, I gotta say that this game is polished as f***, we're talking damn-near Konami levels of polish here!! For a 10-month old game, it can even compete with the likes of Cytus II, and that's saying a lot!

So far, this music game will remain on my device as one of my permanent music apps, that includes jubeat plus, REFLEC BEAT plus, GROOVE COASTER 2, and Taiko no Tatsujin+. Lastly, I'd like say that this game even runs while still maintaining 60 FPS on my old school iPad 2 running iOS 9.3.5, which also surprised the hell out of me........Cytus II, Stellights, and even CROSSxBEATS crash and/or lag pretty badly while Arcaea runs as smooth as butter on it! Mind blown! Why is this thread even desolate!? This is a top-tier mobile music game!

Nice gameplay concept, but too bad it's too grindy for its own good on the song-unlock side...

plus my phone can't handle close double-sliders, but that's another story

Saw that this game was free, decided to give it a try. This game is awesome. I’ll probably do a more in-depth review later, but here’s my main comment- It looks like SVDX, people here are comparing it to SDVX, but this game is very, very different. This is probably the first full-3D rhythm game I’ve ever played.

------

So, Arcaea review.

Gameplay: 10/10- I said this earlier: This game has been constantly compared to Sound Voltex, but it's got very little in common with that game, gameplay-wise. Like SVDX, gameplay is split between two halves- The bottom of the screen, where you tap and hold notes moving across four lanes, and the top of the screen, where you're sliding your finger across colored lines. That's where the similarities end. Unlike SDVX, where the difficulty comes from turning knobs, the upper notes in Arcaea will move up, down, and even have tap along them! This is basically the first full-3D rhythm game I've ever played. Sure, other games like Sound Voltex may utilize a 3D interface, but could otherwise be reworked to play in 2D. Arcaea is not one of those games.

Content: 8/10- Kinda small but great music selection. There's actually a couple artists I recognized in here, including Akira Complex, Cranky (Who, once again, has ported Conflict to this game), and even HiTECH NINJA (lapix). Even though this game is free-to-play, it gives you a wide variety of content from the start, as well as a ton of unlockable content. However, unlocking said content is my biggest complaint- Not only is it a pretty lengthy grind, it's a grind you can only take a few times every few hours. Along with that, you can play songs to earn fragments, but you cannot earn fragments in story mode, where you unlock songs. As a small tip for if you play this game, make sure you play a song in free play mode before story mode- playing a chart for the first time earns you a sizable fragment bonus, but if you play it in story mode first, you miss out on this bonus.

Interface/Controls: 7/10- It looks amazing, but the user interface is the most confusing menu scheme I've ever worked with in a video game. When I didn't figure out that you had to tap something to change the song category, I got stuck thinking that you had to pay to play any of the songs in the game. There isn't enough distinguishing premium songs from unlocked songs. The game controls smoothly on my iPhone. While certain patterns, in particular crossover patterns, are difficult to do on the small screen, gameplay feels natural on the medium difficulty. On the harder difficulty however, there is a massive difficulty spike that the game gives you no warning of, especially between songs of the same difficulty number. A level 6 on hard feels more comparable to a level 8/9 on medium.

Final Thoughts: Get this game. It's free to play, so you won't waste anything. This game looks amazing, sounds amazing, and plays amazing. It's not without its flaws, but none of them have to do with the gameplay, making them overlookable. It's not too hard to get into it, and it's got a nice strong skill ceiling for those that like a challenge. This is one of those hidden gems on the App Store- Give this game some more love!

Arcaea rules! It's probably the best rhythm game experience I've gotten out of a mobile game, and by far the one I've stuck with the longest (save for Uta Macross, but that's more the waifubating than the actual rhythm aspect). It's fast, fun, accurate, and a real looker especially on higher difficulties which can feature some real impressive non-critical visual effects.

The biggest draw for me initially was the fact that 99.99% of the time it is fully playable with just two fingers (as I wanted something to have on the go). Surprisingly, however, this does not cause it to feel like a "nerfed" experience on higher difficulties—so even though you might think this would limit how fancy it can get compared to something like VOEZ, that's decidedly not the case; it can get difficult and fast, but in a really fun and natural-feeling way, thanks to the fantastic note charting most tracks have across the board. Playing mid-level tracks using thumbs on a phone while on the bus, and playing high-level stuff on a tablet on a solid surface with 4 fingers both feel like viable options, and yet almost like an entirely different game.

There are paid-only song packs—7 of them I believe as of this post—each costing about $5 or your equivalent and containing at least 5 songs, as well as a group of 11 tracks that can be bought individually, for about $1 each. There are a lot of tracks available for free though, with a large number having been added since launch, most of which require some amount of "grinding" to get to (no payment options). I've felt good about depositing 15 euros into it so far, but that's obviously entirely subjective.

I could gush and bore to no end, but whatever; the game's fantastic, and free. Get it. Play the early songs normally before going into world map, as you don't get the first clear fragment bonus otherwise. Only go though world maps using Tairitsu. Open the settings menu from the song select to crank up the note speed and adjust the timing offset. Have fun.

After the recent updates, the game is even better than ever now! More free songs, little touch-ups on graphics, and best of all, they've revamped the unlock system to the point where it won't take forever to unlock songs anymore!! In the future, I hope this game makes it to the Nintendo Switch as a full premium game.

I play lots of Arcaea. I played since 2019. Man it is fun!! Happy

I’ve played it for so long, it’s 2022 now, so here’s a better review

Upsides
-Lots of free content, Arcaea free pack has the most songs, other that Memory Archive
-Tutorial is helpful. Not specific though, so if you need to learn with specifics, might not help you
-Character art is beautiful, also story art is beautiful

Downsides
-Story is hard to understand, there’s a lot of big words, many of those words you need to look up. That, and the large amounts of text can make it hard to read or understand for some
-Present songs are too easy, while most Future songs are too hard. A lot of Future songs are targeted for expert players, and moght be intimidating to newer ones
-They don’t teach you about vertical moving arcs or sky notes until present difficulties for some reason.
-Unlocking world mode songs is a pain, especially in the Arcaea pack, a lot of it requires world mode

Overall, a 3/5. If you like a hard rhythm game, reading large texts, are patient and/or quick to learn, this is for you! If not, try another one Smile
