I've been thinking about this lately. Particularly for the more pro players who like a good challenge, can playing the easier charts actually be more unbearable to play? It will likely be because of the deprivation of challenge which pros can seek pleasure out of.
I first got this idea while trying the Skill Analyzer courses level 7 and under on SDVX just to unlock the respective achievements. As I played the easier charts under level 9, I felt a feeling of agony and dullness.
If the above is true, then maybe this should be some penalty; 'For the next three coins, you may only play level 1s on iidx'

This seems to be true for me. The easier charts always feel more "bland" and less fun to play than harder ones.

It isn't very fun to play charts below, like, an ITG 9 for me anymore. I find myself playing the chart and being like "Ooh, listen to all those 8th/16th rhythms that aren't charted". If anything has multiple difficulties and only one of them is a nine or above, I'll probably only ever play that one.

I also feel the same. We have a DDR 2014 in Stockholm, and I've noticed that any song easier than a 12/13 can be somewhat unbearable. Not to mention that most of my favorite songs always seem to be the harder ones (15 and up). When I had ITG near me, it was the same, ITG 9's were good warm-ups at times, but as time progressed I only wanted to play 12's and up

For very VERY easy songs I find them almost more difficult to play than harder difficulties because there isn't enough substance in the chart to keep myself engaged. If I'm playing a chart on DDR, it may be pretty easy, but I never get surprised if I happen to get a good or even drop my combo. I just find it more difficult to maintain my sense of rhythm on incredibly easy songs, probably because I'm so disinterested.

I not only find them much less interesting to play, but also find them much harder to write, on Doubles especially. Most times I finish and , I find myself thinking "Oh no, now I have to make and then ..."

I wouldn't say they're "unbearable", there's just a lot of wasted potential, especially if it's a . While I won't be as interested to do a 7 as I would a 9 (old scale, fight me), that's not to say I wouldn't enjoy it. There are some 6s and 7s I find myself going back to a good chunk of the time. Hell, I'll throw on some AFTER THE GAME OF LOVE and have a blast. I no care, I love it.

I find myself enjoying the lower difficulties sometimes. I don't think the problem is them being "too easy", but rather how technically sound/cohesive they are, how well the charts flow. If it's good, I can have fun with it. If, however, the chart is poorly put together, yes, it would be unbearable, but this would also apply to the higher difficulties.

I like easier charts that are charted appropriately cause they're fun.
For something like DDR, I enjoy my fair share of hard charts, but they get tiresome after a while and I want to play some sort of pre-SuperNOVA 7 or 6.
SEXY PLANET FNSMM and Freckles are top tier.

It would depend honestly. If it fits the song, I would not mind easier charts. But, honestly I prefer more difficult songs (not boss level) like 12s and 13s. Those charts I tend to play on stepmania but eh

I agree. This is why I always start with charts when I make a simfile - to get it out of the way.Post #14 · Posted at 2017-02-18 10:08:39pm 7.1 years ago

DDR tune or gamecube game main menu music, you decide
also i just realized that one of the Z4U songs directly stole the rap from this song

As long as the chart suits the track, I don't mind. There are lots of easy tracks that I still play a lot: Think You Better D is one of my favorite tracks to play at the arcade, even though it's only about a 5 on the old scale.
Though I do agree that there are some easy tracks that are literally awful to play. I cannot stand Try 2 Luv U, and Remember You is just as bad.

I will play some relatively easy charts, either because I like the song or the chart has some sort of nostalgic value. In the case of SEXY PLANET (FROM NONSTOP MEGAMIX) and R3 where it is available, I just play them because I think they're really funny.

Super easy upper level charts are only fine if there's a focus on making it like an actual dance in my book. Otherwise, I'm not into the idea of making a song, for example, an old scale 5 as its highest difficulty when it can easily be an 8 by just stepping rhythms that are obviously there.
This is what I mean by cross-leg btw. I don't know if there's a name for it.

Looked at this chart and... I mean, it's possible to cross-leg, 180, 270, and spin your way through it but it doesn't seem like much fun. This is what I mean by cross-leg btw. I don't know if there's a name for it.

You might mean double-stepping, I think? But I don't think you need to double step that pattern, you just have to turn 90 degrees to the left and then do some repetitive stuff until you go back to the middle. Unless you mean the repetitive motion involved in all those repeated LUDRDUL... patterns.

I like seeing odd patterns once in a while if someone out there has fun with them and spices it up, like the ending of Healing Vision -Angelic mix-.
If a song is slower and has something like that, I'd try it, but I'll probably just double step instead if I can't comprehend it.
