Nintendo Switch

March is a very well strategized release date. It keeps the early adopters happy, while those who are looking for a christmas purchase can have 8 months worth of games to choose from come christmas season, and any launch problems can be reported by the early adopters and resolved by christmas with updates. It worked out great for the 3DS. It started off rocky, but as the games came along it started to fly off the shelves on christmas season.

They really nailed the whole tablet thing and made it look very intuitive. I did noticed that at no point in the reveal did anyone actually TOUCH the screen. This can be good as much as it can be bad. Perhaps it makes the screen more durable, and we can finally let go of that periodic need to use the touch screen for insignificant stuff like in the Wii U, which was never any fun to me and just felt like a handicap and an interruption. Shame on them for not giving the Pro Controller as much support and control as it should have. I hope it is not repeated here. The lack of touch functionality will certainly come as a handicap to some people though.

I think it's safe to say the console will be on par with the PS4 in terms of power, maybe weaker or maybe stronger. The truth is that, due to the graphics arquitecture being based on Nvidia's latest chips, this means that the console is probably very easy to develop for and well optimized, so porting games will be a piece of cake for third parties, and the portability of the tablet means their games will be shared with others outside the household, possibly boosting sales and inspiring more third party support in the long run.

It all comes down to the general reaction from the market. Will the Nintendo Switch really capture people's attention enough to warrant a purchase? I've mostly seen positive reactions in social networks, but the whole portability of the console could easily be invalidated by the generic "I can play games on my phone" argument that is drawing people away from handhelds. It all depends on how successful the console is not only at launch, but on christmas season. Depending on that will we see if third parties are truly here to stay, and I hope so.

By the way, this thing is going to get Tekken 7 at launch. Mark my words.

I'll tell you what, Nintendo...
If there is a new F-zero game equivalent to the greatness of Fzero GX for the Switch, then I'll buy your console just for that one game.

That and Smash Bros/Mario Kart/Mario Maker.

That's pretty much it.
Don't need to play Skyrim.
Don't need to play while I walk my non-existent dog.

Think the thing that made me not want to watch the video anymore was seeing how low the frame rate was on the New LoZ game when the guy was walking his dog. Then again, I won't ever walk a dog, so I'm kind of ok with just playing at home.

Nintendo: "It won't be so bad, right? They didn't mind OoT's framerates... decades ago."

For real though, that most likely will be optimized. They can't posibily leave such terrible frame rates in when Skyrim was running just fine. Speaking of Skyrim, some people maybe never got to play Skyrim, or want to enjoy the enhanced version but don't have a next gen console yet, and they might be interested in this console, so it's convenient for them. There's really no reason to complain about Skyrim so much. It's just them saying "Hey, we don't really have much of a tech demo for thing thing yet, but it can run the enhanced Skyrim on the go! Cool right? Moving on..." It hasn't even been confirmed yet along with NBA 2K. Honestly, the more games the merrier. Nintendo is known to miss out some games and put out an enhanced port later on. Look at the GameCube with Metal Gear Solid and the Resident Evil games. The difference is that those were exclusive, but it was nevertheless a chance to play those games for those who might have missed out because they stick with Nintendo consoles.

I have a hunch the framerate issues that plagued 3rd-Party games on the Wii U won't be as big of an issue, if at all. With that being said, I'm hoping it won't be long until we see more than 3 seconds of various games; I want to see up-close what the games are like, especially Mario Goes to Mexico/Splatton-maybe-2/Mario Kart 8: Maybe Double Dash!!.

I was incredibly attracted to this thing until it dawned on me that it didn't have two screens. Which only tells me it can't replace the 3DS... which means they will probably release another portable eventually... which means I'll have to buy both because I'm a filthy Nintendo fan. >.> Still really like the concept and applaud the new idea. I'm not one to care about specs, as long as the loading times are bearable. I mean... I'm a Nintendo fan. Haven't cared about that for a while. ;P

Without a touch screen (if they got rid of it), I wonder how Splatoon will work. I still think it's possible there will be two screens or a touch screen, but I'm sure they'll work around it regardless.

Even for Australian dollars, a hundred and twenty bucks for a Zelda game, a Mario Kart game and Skyrim each is a bit ridiculous, right?

I don't know the usual price for Aussie games but I do know they're pricier than you get them here. It's why Yahtzee buggered off to the US, isn't it?

Even so, £70 for a launch game is pretty bastardly, especially for two of the games that everyone has already played. That said, I was around for the launch of the N64 when they tried to convince everyone that £60 for Doom 64 was worth it.

£70 doesn't strike me as too ridiculous... for Nintendo standards, considering how they love to overprice absolutely everything. Just wondering how many people will still be willing to buy a console with such expensive games.

I will reserve judgement until we start getting UK prices around the launch date. Either way it's the price pattern in the first year I'm more interested in, I still maintain that it's a bit of a needless risk going in for a console in its first year when all the prices are deliberately gouging.

Isn't there supposed to be an official reveal real soon this month? I think it's better off waiting for that, especially considering the first three news sources for "Nintendo Switch Price" on Google are from the Sun, the Express and the Daily Star, which you can't trust for real news, so good luck getting any truth about tech from them.
